Limerick GAA 2023-2024

Darragh O Donovan could be the new limerick captain - a phenomenal player and we’d be 5 in a row if he was fit this year.

Of the two Limerick midfielders, O’Donovan stood out way more. He went out and hurled whereas O’Donoghue tried to act the hard man throwing belts and trying to ruffle English. Who in fairness took it and showed how it’s done.

Ok mate, you haven’t a clue either.

Weak, very weak.

English was an awful match up for him. TBF a centre backs job is to hold the middle and nothing went through there but NAP should have had someone coming back from midfield picking up English who was everywhere but centre forward. He was pretty much literally their only forward and they should have been well aware.

Again I think Agent O’Neill is not the genius he was once believed to be

He’s been at that all his career. He’s a bully pure and simple. Now that’s grand, he does a job, but he gets away with murder. English took him to the cleaners today.

A little harsh on WOD, I would say.

I thought DOD was immense and one of the best players on the field, as you’d expect but WOD was definitely one of NaP’s best players too. He is some man to win dirty ball and he mopped up and used the ball well throughout.

I suppose the argument is whether he is wasted at 6 in a club team who were struggling at midfield & half-forward. I thought Mike Foley & WOD were two of Na Piarsaigh’s best players but Boylan was the only one of that MF/HF line who really stood out (and actually moving him to midfield really weakened their HF line).

Especially when Doon were playing a sweeper and Na Piarsaigh had a man spare, would they have been better off pushing WOD on? They still only lost by a point but they were outhurled in the middle of the field, I thought, despite their physicality.

Surprised enough at that assessment. Two very different players and playing different positions, both played very well. WOD had a massive game.

I thought he’d get on more ball and drive forward than he did. Maybe he was told to stay and hold the centre, and he was centre back to be fair. I just felt others for NaP stood out more. Casey full back, Ronan Lynch and as you said Mike Foley were the stand outs for me. My opinion is probably clouded by his behaviour for the 21 yard free before half time and another incident before that. O’donovan let his hurling do the talking.

Didn’t think he could have got on much more ball. Put in a massive load of tackles. Made incredible yards to put in a tackle to stop a likely goal. English shoved him and he shoved him back, not much to be getting upset about in that exchange I thought. DOD threw a swipe at Lynch’s head, which was worse?

Na Piarsaigh have been the club that has driven limerick to the top. Phenomenal success and should have had a second all Ireland tk go along with their limerick dominance.

Injuries hurt them this year also and the team are on the road a long time.

The production line also of bringing through inter county stars has slowed down a bit also.

The home of 4 hurler of the year awards might dispute this :joy:

They’ve brought a few new players into the team in the past couple of years but another intercounty standard half-forward is probably needed if they want to maintain previous levels.

Wayne Kearns was decent for them last year but didn’t get a run today; Grimes was a big bonus to have back this year but wasn’t at his best today.

Henn was sloppy in possession today and Downes was just really, really quiet. JJ Carey started well but was also very quiet after the two goals. I just don’t see Lynch as a forward at all, surely he was the perfect spare man option today? Casey is obviously the main man and to even get to a final without him shows that they do still have a lot of quality but they haven’t hit the same levels at all.

They did have 3 players on this year’s county minor panel although I think two of them are still only U-16. Supposed to be serious prospects though. The well will never completely run dry for them but they have a once-in-a-generation team at the moment, probably coming towards the end of its natural lifecycle.

I don’t care what way you cut it. NAP are a better team than Doon. I fancied Doon all year but only because NAP are a shambles

I thought he had an unbelievable game. I’d say he ended up playing in 3 different lines as he seemed to be the one moved every time they brought a sub on.

How would you make that out

Dowling with two points their top point scorer today. 11 or so wides and yet a point short. Doon ground it out today but poorest Nap have been in years.

Haha you’re some mouth of a fella

The stick Derek gets here is what I meant. Not sure what your issue with me is. Feel free to private message if you want. I literally explained what I meant - the expectation was ridiculous but they lived up to it.

Go player for player through both teams.NAP are streets ahead. They are less than their parts.

Doon are English Dod and few more. NAP are county all over. Badly coached or maybe hunger done
