Limerick GAA 2023 - League champions means nothing now 🐐

Doon usually go into the championship with about 46 in training and beating the best in the country in challenges before plummeting in a semi final.

Maybe they might get all the way with the opposite approach.

That’s nonsense. You’d be hoping most of them are bate

Well this is it, Doon just need to make sure they finish ahead of 2 other teams, 2 wins could be enough. There is no use in them peaking too early when they’ve fallen flat in the latter stages so often.

Obviously they won’t want to be caught, and I feel like the gap between the top 4 & the rest may have narrowed a bit in the past 18 months. But they should be gearing towards hitting top form later in the year.

And, to be honest, they have so much numbers that, as long as they have their county players, they’ll still be able to field a very strong team even missing a few. They might not beat NaP at the weekend but they’ve beaten NaP in the group before, they need to be beating them in the knockout stages.

Murphy, English, Simon, Josh, Bug, Stokes, Coleman, DOD- it’s potentially a very very strong front 8 they could field. Even down a couple of them, that’s not including the older Simon, the younger Bug, the younger Donovan, Stapleton, Cummins x3.

Na Piarsaigh are 5/4 to beat Feohanagh, yet ahead of them in the outright betting, even though they are more likely to start strong and get weaker as the competition progresses.

No real value in those outrights, I don’t think.

You should get double points for getting the Junior A correct.

I was getting tired of your incessant yapping recently but you’ve totally redeemed yourself by fingering Ahane for relegation.

Some analytics & insights into the expert predictions of our 19 TFK analysts:

Unsurprisingly, the most consensus has come with the prediction of the senior champions with 15/19 going for a fully-replenished Na Piarsaigh. Nobody has opted for a Lynch-less Patrickswell, while one brave soul (@dodgy_keeper) has plumped for Doon to break their duck.

Also getting near unanimity was poor Old Christians getting relegated to Junior B. Personally, I think that, potentially, in Glenn Hannon, Kevin Howard & Conor Madden that they should have enough to stay up but there is no obvious relegation contender elsewhere, although it can be hard to tell with the second teams.

Pretty much split evenly between Adare & Ahane for relegation from Senior A, while Ballybrown are favoured for promotion back to that group, with Blackrock just tipped ahead of Garryspillane to have their senior tenure ended.

People often say that the Premier Intermediate Championship is the most even and most entertaining but there is a lot of love on TFK for Newcastlewest, with over half of our contributors tipping them. 3 for last year’s finalists Cappamore, 3 for newly-promoted Effin, 2 for just-relegated Monaleen and 1 for last year’s relegation finalists, Bruff.

Nobody thinks that Bruff will be in relegation danger this year, obviously thinking last year was a blip but it’s 3 of their colleagues from the South who are tipped for relegation, Knockainey most heavily.

I think the Intermediate is so so hard to call but a lot are tipping newly-relegated Murroe/Boher, who suffered back-to-back relegations in the Covid years. TFK obviously thinks Group 1 is much the tougher of the two intermediate groups, with 16 of our contributors predicting a winner from that group (and that’s with nobody going for a Seamie Flanagan-backed Feohanagh). 3 have gone for Croagh/Kilfinny to go one better after being defeated in last year’s county final.

A lot of variety in our relegation predictions from Intermediate, with 6 different teams represented. Newly-promoted Caherline have been tipped by almost half of the teams (personally, I feel they may surprise people). People have been predicting the demise of an aging Croom for a long time but they’ve actually done pretty well in the recent past; only 1 going for Kilmallock’s second team who are a side I feel may have benefited from the reduced Covid format.

And it’s no surprise that the most variation comes in the notoriously hard-to-predict Junior A Championship; with 7 different winners picked, none getting more than 4 votes. 4 for the Hego-inspirerd St. Pat’s, 4 for the notorious underachievers Killeedy, 3 for the perennial contenders from the South Castletown/Ballyagran, 2 for CON & Crecora/Manister, 2 for Derry McCarthy & Drom, 2 for newly-relegated Tour and 2 for Feenagh/Kilmeedy who have been very underwhelming in recent seasons.

None for last year’s finalists, St. Kieran’s, none for Ballybricken/Bohermore who were also semi-finalists last year and none for any of the second teams.
