Limerick GAA 2023 - League champions means nothing now 🐐

Tipp were well able for KK on that day while Shefflin was on the pitch. Same way they were handling them well in 2009 until the referee got involved.

Ye are good WUM’s I’ll give ye that, but this current crop from Limerick are a far cry from what was on show back in those days.

FFS TJ Reid in his mid 30’s and he’s got far more change off Limerick in the last 3 years than he ever could off Tipp when he was in his prime. Hooked after 19 minutes in Nowlan Park in 2013. That was the standard back then.

The same Tipperary team who lost to Limerick in 2013 and were gone from the championship after two games.

The fact is, Limerick at their worst got change from Tipperary. Where as Limerick at their best are giving Tipperary hammerings on a yearly basis. The two Ronnies back in charge won’t make a difference if you don’t have the hurlers.

Bevans & Butthead are the messiah now sure

Tipp shat the bed in 2009 when it was in the melting pot and all those lads were fit and available.

There were more torn cruciates in the Kilkenny team that day than what was in Santry Sports Clinic ffs

That Tipp team were very flaky.

The Kieran Kingston Cork team of their era you’d have to say.

Massive underachievers when you think back to the hype of Autumn 2010 with a stunning U21 win under their belt also. They were supposed to be the next Kingpins, the next untouchables.

It must kill them to see Limerick take that title now so ruthlessly.

Lar Corbett is not a hall of famer. Had a few good years but was wishy washy for a lot of his career.

He threatened to be a great player but not consistent enough.

He’ll always be remembered for that hat trick that took down the five in a row chasing side.

This was a cracking goal.

For the few years that full forward line were in their pomp they were something else.

A complicated legacy. He’ll be remembered for the hat trick, tax evasion and following Tommy Walsh around the field.

I’d have no doubt a peak Limerick would mix it with either of these sides but I do think In the grand scheme of teams Limerick suffer a little for not having a rival who’s really putting them to the pin of their collar. Clare threatened it this year I guess.

When I think of that Kilkenny team I’d think of the games v tipperary not the mauling of Waterford and the beating of Limerick.

The only good years Lar had were 09-11. You wouldn’t hang your coat on him any other year

Bursting onto the scene as a 20 year old scoring two (2) key points in an All Ireland Final, and still being the best player on the pitch in an AI Final 13 years later meets Hall of Famer criteria.

Not to mention the three HOTY nominations in a row during his prime. Remarkable consistency.

29 goals in Championship Hurling. Have any Limerick forwards even scored half of that yet?

He was good when he was younger tbf. He was plagued with injuries.

Lar was a great man to bang in a few goals when a team were well beaten, a deadly man to cycle down hill with the wind at his back

Was it Babs Keating or who was it confidently predicted on the radio that evening that they’d go on to win five in a row? Whipped them up into a frenzy and the tipp contributors were confident in the following days and weeks that the torch had been handed over and the tipp era of dominance had arrived. There was a small bit of ignominy to living through that experience for tipp fans but they came back and won again and could be proud of that and so they quietly moved on from their back to back ambitions. Then Limerick come along and win a breakthrough all Ireland beating the big three on the way and the last champions in the final and Ciaran Carey steps up and says they could win five in a row. And how close to right he’s been already. It’s awful galling for the tipp fans in fairness.
