Limerick GAA 2023 - League champions means nothing now šŸ

Iā€™d say Galway prob have more than 4 clubs operating at that level.

Thomasā€™s, Sarsfields, Turlough, Cappataggle, Clarenbridge and Loughrea. Mellows are decent too.

Doon 5-13 Ahane 0-13

Doon hit some amount of wides but are operating on a different level to Ahane who just didnā€™t have enough in attack.

Second half goals from Barry Murphy who capitalised on a turnover from a short puckout. Darragh Stapleton released Dean Coleman with a handpass out the back door and finished first time to the net. Stapleton flicked the 5th goal to the net over his head after a delivery from Richie.

Doon brought Jack Bug and Cian Oā€™Donovan on, as well as having Adam return. Strengthening at the right time, I think.

Ahane too negative in my opinion; why didnā€™t they push Ciaran Barry on to at least midfield and give them another running threat? They were apparently quite confident heading into it but didnā€™t really give it a real go.

Doon hit some amount of wides which made their performance seem way less fluent. Pat Simon gave Dan a lot of bother in reality, but should have scored 1-5 at least. DOD was on a good bit of ball but wasnā€™t as good as he usually is. Richie English was excellent at centre-back, between him & Patrick Cummins for man of the match. Coleman a big threat inside, but also hit a lot of wides. Tommy Hayes was very solid at the back too.

Dean Coleman 2-1
Barry Murphy 1-4 (0-3 frees)
Pat Simon 1-2
Darragh Stapleton 1-1
Patrick Cummins 0-2
Richie English 0-1
Josh Ryan 0-1
Cian Oā€™Donovan 0-1

Tom Morrissey 0-9 (0-6 frees)
Colum Carroll 0-1
Ronan Fox 0-1
Niall Moran 0-1
Dan Minihan 0-1

Good to see coleman going well

We havenā€™t done too bad at inter county level the last few years all the same, the top 4 provided only 6 of our starting team this year granted would have been 7 if Cian was fit.

And that number is getting smaller at underage, the spread is great

Hat-trick for Seamie Flanangan in the Feohanagh vs Caherline game. 40-odd wides between the two teams apparently; goals prove crucial & Feohahagh move to 2 wins, Caherline still winless.

Thatā€™s been said for years. Two biggest underachievers by far in the county

they just need to get the schools right. the rest will follow simply by weight of numbersā€¦ I think the two secondaries are rugby schools but Mullins in the Crescent might sway things.

I think Ard Scoil used be a rugby school too at one stage, strong hurling in there now and it feeds in to the club

If they got a school in the west going it would make some difference too

Mungret and Monaleen have been up and coming for the past 20 years.

Hego is in Newcastle now so maybe he might be able to get it going out thereā€¦ that is some size of a town, they could easily support a really strong senior teamā€¦ it all needs to be done from the schools with the clubs helping too

Theyā€™ve got strong soccer and rugby clubs competing at really good levels in those areas.

It took Na Piarsaigh a long time and a lot of hard work to breakthroughā€¦ it wonā€™t happen overnight and rushing it wonā€™t work

Heā€™s in the small school in Newcastle, it would have been perfect if he was in the big one, which has a big population of hurlers from NCW, Kieranā€™s, Monagea, Knockaderry etc. Castlemahon and further would go to Hazelwood but the NCW schools have had huge populations with lots of hurling talent but little structure to support it

When I was younger Noel Hartigan used to go around the schools doing coaching twice a week in the inner city.

Are there still development officers? would they even be let in to schools these days. On top of the academies it is very important Limerick work with the schools, national and secondary to keep things going

Itā€™s very sad the way hurling was let die in Sextons

You watch some amount of hurling lad

There are loads of them. More than ever

thatā€™s great to hear. need to capitalize on the success happening now and make use of all the extra young lads that will pick up a hurley, especially in urban areas

Magnificentā€¦ Timmy got a shout out and he donā€™t even own a pair of boots he will need to get another one before his travels

Iā€™d say football is nearly a bigger problem in Monaleen.

ALTC and that Beary lad havenā€™t drove on at all.
