Limerick GAA 2023 - League champions means nothing now 🐐

He did

Eudie Coughlan was doing that for fun generations ago
Heavier hurl / sliothair

I heard he abandoned his own club, was that not true?

Tells you all you need to know.

Mackey led his club to greatness, where he was born and reared.

Did Mackey demand a statue?

Lads on the verge of being accused of blasphemy here.

Mackey was even embarrassed to be interviewed. An incredibly humble man. Val Horgan wrote a book on Ring that I have. There’s a full chapter based on an interview with Mackey. Horgan can get nothing out of him, he didn’t want to be talking about himself at all.

Still though, when it boiled down to the ultimate question on who was the greatest of all time, Mackey left him in no doubt that he was.

Here he comes walking down the street…

They were very different hurlers apparently, probably pointless trying to compare which was better,
Old timers said that Mackey was a beast, strongest hurler in Ireland, unstoppable if he got ball in hand. He’d go through ya, Ring was a stylist, a more skillful hurler, but Mackey could hurl, and Ring was strong and tough

Mackey has the Munster Championship named after him, Christy has some junior thing in his name. The people have spoken.

It’s an unusual tie breaker, but fair enough :+1:

Genuinely don’t like the way this war of words is going. Two legends. Both laying it on the line. Admire both of them for their achievements and let them rest in peace

Nobody said a bad word about Mick Mackey

And a roundabout!

Nor should anyone say a bad word about Christy Ring. Our generation is in no position to judge.

I’d say Mick Mackey would have been a great man for loose use of the hurley. Fellas would have been pining for him to be sent off.

Mackey felt that hurling had gotten way too soft in his lifetime, so God knows what he’d think of lads rolling around after a brush to the chest.

In that famous picture where Ring passes him with the sling Mackey had been umpiring and allowed a Tipp goal where two Tipp forwards charged Mick Cashman into the goal, whatever was said between them probably centred on that.

But it’s said that fellas bounced off him as he soloed.

Look it 2 legends of the Game different generations no one here was around to see either of them no point arguing who was better of worse they’ve left their mark on the game’s history and that’s all that matters

“’You didn’t get half enough of it’, said Mackey. ‘I’d expect nothing different from you,’ said Ring. “That was what was said.”
