Limerick GAA 2023 - League champions means nothing now šŸ

Sure isnā€™t there planning for a few hundred houses in the Well lodged. That should swell their numbers no bother.

The Well have tradition which counts for an awful lot.

The final day of both the Senior A & Senior B turned out to be very exciting, with six very close games, all but one team with something to play for (who still played a big part in how things played out) and permutations changing from moment to moment. People on phones then trying to get updates from the other grounds.

Probably a bit lucky in how it turned out but still, that kind of competitiveness has to be good. Seemed to be pretty decent crowds at all the games; there would have been even more if the Intermediate games were more spaced-out on the Sunday. Should have been on at 1 & 5.

I donā€™t think anyone really gave Ahane a chance, even if Na Piarsaigh had nothing to play for but credit to Ahane, they pulled out a performance to stay up for the third season in a row. I was talking to a Na Piarsaigh man this morning and he said NaP were desperate, and that Ahane deserved a win. You would always have felt that Ahane needed a very substantial lead coming into the last 10 to win it but still, credit to them. Like, they were 7 up and Na Piarsaigh scored a penalty and you might have thought Na Piarsaigh would close the gap then but they hit back immediately with three points to open up the 7-point gap again. And then, at the end, Na Piarsaigh actually went in front and then Tom scored 2 points in a minute to put them in front before NaP levelled at the end.

Incredible drama from an Ahane pov anyway, and it did have a bearing elsewhere. Adare probably would have felt that they would at least get a relegation play-off to stay up and they delivered their best performance of the season but just killed themselves with wides. The game was there to be won but couldnā€™t take it and a late Patrickswell blitz sees them relegated. Iā€™m sickened I wasnā€™t at the Ahane game just to have seen Tomā€™s performance. Sounds like he dragged them through by sheer force of will. 1-13, 0-6 from play, won most of the frees himself. Ballwinning, dispossessing Na Piarsaigh backs, roasting Mikey Casey. An absolute phenomenon. Sounded like their other county men, Dan & CiarĆ”n Barry did very well too, think Barry got 0-3 from play. Na Piarsaigh maybe lacking motivation but will expect more the next day; theyā€™re maybe a little worried about a potential lack of depth & impact from the bench despite having their big men all back.

The Well men were always worried that Adare would pull out a big performance against them, and they did give their best performance of the year but just too little, too late. Pa Kirby got an early goal for the Well but Willie & John Fitz scored goals before HT to keep things close. Sounded like Jack Kelliher did wreck from centre-forward, heā€™s deadly accurate like. You just have to keep a handle on someone like him because if you give him space, heā€™ll pick off scores all day. Thereā€™s a few sharpshooters like that around the county and they just love those pockets of space outside the half-back line: Kelliher, Houlihan, Fitzgibbon, Gavin, etc. Donā€™t think the Well are totally happy with their performance but able to re-introduce Josh Considine, and theyā€™ve got 3 weeks to prepare for Liberties. There was one stage where it looked like the Well might get relegated; apparently Adare hit 8 wides in the first 8 minutes of the second half which is scandalous really. Disaster of a year for Adare.

Doon vs Kilmallock was the only match that didnā€™t really matter and, luckily enough, as both players have some big injury doubts and Kilmallock lost Shane Oā€™Brien early on. Theyā€™ll probably be glad of the extra-long break to get those fellas back. Game ebbed and flowed, looked like Kilmallock had the better of it early on but a Pat Simon goal saw Doon go clear and, from the updates, it appeared as if they were kicking for home but the Balbec rallied and fired over a number of scores in a row to turn a 6/7-point deficit into a 1-point lead in a matter of moments. They have that firepower to just turn it on and rack up big scores. Woulfe seemed like he scored a lot, be happy to have him back firing, Chan aswell. Equally, Doon delighted to have Stokes back and in-form, and the time to get Barry Murphy & Adam English right.

A great day of hurling, just a pity you didnā€™t have them all recorded and someone like Donie in the Jeff Stelling role.

From 8-15 I feel weā€™re the best thatā€™s left but Iā€™m worried about our backs, Jerome only back and I dont think the depth is there, itā€™s wide open between ourselves the Balbec Doon with KP as the dark horses, I donā€™t see the Well or Liberties having enough.

You wonā€™t get much change off the full back line with Mike Casey back there and Jerome wonā€™t need much to be back right. The half back line isnā€™t wake either

Condon has a howler in him alright

I donā€™t understand how Grimes isnā€™t starting.

Back to the football next weekend. Itā€™s all to play for in group 2, KP in a fight for 3rd place with Ballysteen. Galtee Gaels should beat Ballylanders which will also put them on 5 points, and they have the head to head over Ballysteen. However, KP and GG drew so not sure what happens there. Possibly a play off.

Group 1 has three huge games. Oola and Galbally in a relegation semi final, and a draw will do Galbally. Thatā€™s a real local rivalry clash, similar to Claughaun and Monaleen who will fight it out for 3rd place. It would be great to see Claughaun prevail, they are a great traditional football club, although I would think Monaleen should have too much. Thatā€™s where Monaleen can really fill the togs however. Finally, you have the mouth watering Fr Caseys and NCW, which is effectively a quarter final. There will be an almighty crowd in Drom for that on Sunday. Both teams will be itching to get a bye to the semi as thereā€™s a danger of meeting Adare in a quarter final.

Has he not emigrated?

Yes, he left for the middle East (I believe) after round two

They might fly him home. Rahillys flew Jack Savage home and lost by 15.

Sure didnā€™t your mate mark landers fly home for a 21s game in the early 90s from his j1 and they lost by 25 points. I heard him on about it a few weeks ago.

Flying lads home rarely works unless maybe from the UK.

Itā€™s a nonsense really.

Even lads who go on holidays for a week but get home the day or two before a game, are generally not much use on their return.

Heā€™s teaching in Dubai and wonā€™t be back

Apparently Kevin Ryan was brought on for Condon at half-time? Which is a bold move.

And Casey got destroyed by Tom; again Ahane probably needed it more and probably everything was going in there.

Why wonā€™t they give The Dow a cut at it in goals?

Iā€™d be concerned with all the injuries we have.

That explains it so. He was coming on as a sub in the earlier games. Big loss.

Ballysteen win, GG lose or draw = Ballysteen
Ballysteen win, GG win = GG
KP win, GG win = KP on score difference (unless huge swing)
KP win, GG lose or draw = KP
Two draws = KP on score difference
