Yeah I couldn’t see the logic really; I thought the one thing that Kilmallock in their favour is serious work rate in their forward and, of all the teams in the county, were the ones most likely to be able to disrupt Na Piarsaigh at source. Maybe they thought they’d be able to disrupt NaP even dropping out but that was proved wrong.
Not that they didn’t pressure them and win turnovers, just not to the extent that they needed.
And their gameplan worked a bit in the first half when they were picking off scores from out the field, they have some fantastic long-range shooters, always have. The best in the county at it- Paudie, POL, Woulfe, Houla, KOD; then Hanley & Mul also scored from distance.
That was fine until they had to chase the game and had no idea how to get the ball inside to their real dangermen. You have to be able to do both. I was disappointed with their reaction at the start of the second half. Na Piarsaigh had their setup perfect to contain that goals.
The one time it looked like Kilmallock might score a goal in the first half, Boylan hauled Hanley down. Think he got away with no yellow even.
In fairness to Johnny, he let it go way more than usual. I thought he did well.
Was only 6,000 at Tipp final last Sunday. Very poor crowd. Duignan was saying in paper today how it was hard to believe Offaly final nearly had as big as crowd as Tipp final.
Tipp hurling is at rock bottom and 6,600 officially there last week although i would say it was a lot higher with Under 16s not included. Probably closer to 8.5k or 9k.
Limerick are at an all time high and barely anyone there today.
Good to see. Made up for all 25 of the Tippos that went to the gaelic grounds this year. But I suppose you can only get so many uses out of one strip of tin foil. Pick your battles
10,000 at Cork football final today. Bigger crowd than Tipp and Limerick hurling final. Nemo have about 50 supporters and very little interest in football in Cork. Hard to believe the difference.
They could really do with their supporters going to support them in underage finals up the road instead of going to Dublin to watch the 3 in a row Champions and take photos of Henry Shefflin.
