I think they need to overhaul underage grading altogether.
Something like, say there are 12 teams. Split them into two leagues 1 & 2 by some sort of merit.
6 teams play, top 4 in 1 go premier, bottom 2 in 1 and top 2 in 2 go in in B, rest in C
Or something along those lines, I am not sure what the best way to do it is, but I don’t think grades should be fixed at the start of the competition basically.
Between fellas doing the cunt, and clubs genuinely not having a clue what kind of team they have/who will show up. Fixed divisions are very hard to get right
Whilst it should be the ambition of clubs to play in the top grade, including amalgamations, it’s not always feasible. Some clubs have a history of acting the cunt by always entering grades lower than they’re capable of competing in. They know who they are, it has always been the same.
Bord na n-Óg look at results over the previous three years in attempt to grade teams fairly. They do make an effort to put amalgamations in as high a grade as possible but some of them are just too weak. The motion is well meaning, but it should be taken as a recommendation rather than a rule.
I wouldn’t say so either. Frank is a good man to canvass and talks to a particular group of people in the clubs.
On Emmett, of all the candidates that spoke last night both defeated and successful he was by a mile the best public speaker.
Monagea delegate was quite strongly against this motion. His argument being that if Monagea/Strand/Tournafulla joined up as Feale Rangers, they would still only have around the same numbers as other local clubs like Rathkeale or Drom Broadford. I don’t agree with banning them from playing at the lowest grade. Let them find their natural level. Rural clubs like that find it hard to field teams so I can understand where they come from.
Seamus Mac will be better than people think. While not as capable an operator as John Cregan, he has a good rapport with most clubs and is a people person. And trust me, not everyone on the current list of Co Board officers are good with people.
Pretty sure that’s why Monagea had an unusual alliance with St Kierans a few years ago, as they didn’t want to join with ncw again. They joined for minors once (under the name St Brendans I think) but supposedly a few players went on to play with NCW off the back of it.
