Thatās a real pity. Limerick should be building on the success of the 21s the last few seasons but looks like weāll make the same mistakes as the early 00s
Thatās an awful shame about the minors, how are we letting that happen?
Out of interest, what is the selection process for underage management/selectors?
Shit trickles down
Whomeverās face fits with a certain tool salesman.
One lad I know had to meet the tool hire for an interview for a minor backroom role with the u14 side
True enough .
The real problem is the lack of focus on the club . The current cork model seems very good with a great balance between club , development squads and really active GDAs . The recent success at u21 is papering over a lot of cracks . There are big big problems in limerick gaa .
Itās a strange one for me; because surely he does want Limerick to succeed?
Wallace is supposed to be in charge of the academy, and is proven to be an excellent coach; he should have a strong input. In fact, no coach should be allowed near our underage teams without someone like that vouching for their abilities.
As for the rest of the management team; it can be hard to filter but you need people who are not only good man managers but you need fellas who understand the game and get the young players thinking.
On the other hand, as Iāve said recently, the skill levels of the players coming through these academies now is very very high. So there must be some people doing something right along the way.
I have said this before.
I was coaching teams through the age group of the past two years u21s since u8.
We had a surge of a few years of exceptional players in limerick and that powered underage hurling (and the good u21 football sides) but the next few years just donāt have a similar number of high quality.
There is a real depth aged 21 to 23 but it takes time to settle the side. From next few years we will need a couple from each underage crop but I see a big problem with trasnitioning on the age gap from U17 to u21 & senior panel
Limerick team to play Clare in Munster Football Championship.
- Donal OāSullivan (Monaleen) Captain
- Gareth Noonan (Dromcollogher/Broadford)
- Sean OāDea (Kilteely/Dromkeen)
- David Connolly (Adare)
- Paul Maher (Adare)
- Cillian Fahy (Dromcollogher/Broadford)
- Gordon Browne (Na Piarsaigh)
- Darragh Treacy (St Kierans)
- Patrick Begley (Mungret/St Pauls)
- Peter Nash (Kildimo Pallaskenry)
- Michael Fitzgibbon (Feohanagh/Castlemahon)
- Paul White (Rathkeale)
- Sean McSweeney (St Kierans)
- Danny Neville (Ballysteen)
- Jamie Lee (Newcastlewest)
In response to me not predicting half that team; I did not realise that most of them were even on the panel. Fitzgibbon is a nice addition, heās a good footballer.
Gordon Browne & Paul Maher didnāt feature in the League either, I donāt think.
Shocked that Brian Fanning isnāt there somewhere, heās a serious player. McSweeney over OāCarroll & no Josh Ryan either.
It canāt always be summer
Oācaroll must not be coming down much thatās the only reason he shouldnāt be starting
To the US for summer.
At least na p got a starter after the hurling
Has begley the legs for midfield?
No. And he wonāt be there for long
Wouldnāt have thought so
Fuck it, I didnāt know that.
There was some article going around a few days ago that 53 players had rejected call-ups to the Limerick panel this year. Hard to lose one of the players that would be starting even if every semblance of a footballer in the county was available.
I wouldnāt be afraid of playing that side in a club game unfortunately.
Bench: James Brouder, Oran Collins, Daniel Daly, Colm McSweeney, Iain Corbett, Josh Ryan, Tommy Griffin, Tony McCarthy, Killian Ryan, Davy Lyons, PƔdraig Scanlon
Jesus.
The footballers are back to the bad old days.
