Seamie HIckey is a topper and gets an awful lot of unwarranted flak. Hugely popular within the squad and a real mentor to the younger lads.
Never moans about not starting either - just wants whatâs best for the squad. Above all of them, Iâd love to see him win an All-Ireland medal. Most of the rest will probably get another chance - he wonât, youâd feel.
Our clubman, John Chawke, represents Limerick in the All-Ireland Poc Fada at the weekend. Won Munster this year for the first time, hope he goes all the way this year.
Agree completly, Hickey is a top fella in fairness to him. I know when the special olympics were on in 2014, Seamus helped out bigtime. My missus was a volunteer and he was there with zero notice.
Think it was extra time in the second half he came tearing across the goal and hammered into some Cark coont who passed into the middle and Casey intercepted back towards goal. A true servant alright and will no doubt impart his knowledge of the build up in 07 to all the young lads
The county board managed to almost balls this whole thing up. Daly turned them down before appointing kiely and they got rid of jerry Wallace at the first chance even do he developed maybe 10 of the starting team and coached hannon, Nicky and a few more. Feel sorry for the likes of joe Quaid too who had a big hand in this underage. This will be presented as some sort of master plan in the media if we win but in reality a couple of very lucky decisions went our way at vital points. Having Wallace for four years and Daly turning down the senior job which meant we got kiely who should have been the number one pick but wasnât.
That is completely spot on the academy was in fairness a great idea and executed v well under Wallace and Quaid to a lesser extent. It sickens me to hear Daly prattling on about his role in it on the Sunday Game and the Examiner. We definitely dodged a bullet not getting him.
Daly is a classic limerick county board man. Big name, Big money, big ego, out side the county and loves the media attention. Ticks all the boxes for the limerick county board. Heâd be off to chelteham with the money man and the lads would love it.
I heard Daly on the radio last week name checking all those he was involved with in the academy. Youâd swear they will be thanking him from the Hogan stand if they win. In fairness he did give kudos to Joe MacKenna as well.
