I met Antney Daly coming out of the jacks in Parnell Park once. For a split second it didn’t register with me who he was, other than I knew the face. So I greeted him in the usual manner I greet any acquaintance “Well horse, how we nowwwww?”, to which he nodded in agreement.

I’ve no problem with RTÉ shelling out for him to smile and nod and guffaw and his way through some clichéd analysis on d’telly, but I don’t particularly want Luimneach CLG shelling out for his brand of hurling systems. The way its gone I think Cyril Farrell is the man for us. He’s the only man who understands us. Hip and whip.

I’m assuming that you, like most on here, have been involved in either playing or managing a team at some level.

You’re training all year and have a crunch knock out championship match. Win and you are still in it, adrenaline from winning and facing into another do or die match which the whole year now depends on. Lose it and you’re gutted, along with everyone else in the squad who has invested time, money, blood, sweat and tears.

Imagine then one of the most important people in the squad fucking off pronto straight at the full time whistle. What sort of signal does that send to the players? Your fellow selectors? The backroom team? Surely if you lost you’d be some way disappointed and in no humour for other non immediate squad related activities? While if you won you’d like to be around the dressing room, enjoying the buzz of a happy dressing room, focusing on the next day, analysing what worked, what didn’t, planning ahead.

It looks terrible that in the two years he has been involved he couldn’t curtail his media duties on match days when the minors are involved. He’s the very one demanding commitment and unity all year and then he treats the others in the squad with, what in my eyes, is pure contempt

It’s obvious you feel strongly about this and I don’t think I am going to change your mind on it. However the reason I stuck my oar in is that the man you speak about with his head in the trough etc is not the man that we knew up here.

Have to agree. Got to know him quite well through his brother when I was living in Clare castle. Utterly sound. Had a great chat with him on e night about the 96 match. One of best summaries I ever heard
