Limerick GAA - Box Office

Hospital /Herbertstown has really gone back in last 5 or so years. Why is this ?. It is a decently populated parish

They hung on at senior for years after they weren’t good enough for that level scrapping through relegation battles etc. They would have been better off going down I’d say and being competitive. By the time they went down they were barely a passable intermediate side. They are junior A now.
I don’t know much about the club but you see very little from them underage anymore

Scoby’s Bar…was responsible for the decimation of our 3 in a row U21’s allegedly.

I think it’s fair to say it wasn’t the venues were the issue

I would say that Danny Frewen is probably good enough to play for Limerick, Stephen Walsh may have been too.

I do think that Michael Donovan of Galbally, and Tommie Childs of Galtee Gaels are definitely good enough to be involved, both impressed with the 21s and have been involved in the past and hopefully will be into the future.

But St. Senan’s have 3 players, Kildimo/Pallaskenry have 2, there are representatives from Gerald Griffin’s, Glin, Kilteely/Dromkeen, Cappamore, Castlemahon, Claughaun. It is a little bit unusual that there isn’t even one from any of those clubs.

Gavin is back; Browne, Condon & possibly Hannon out.

I would have liked to see all three of those start, but if they are out:

Quaid
Casey English O’Brien
Byrnes Hickey Gavin
Jim-Bob O’Donovan
Morrissey Hegarty Dowling
Casey Malachy Mulcahy

A mixture of players who will be first-choice, with those who deserve a shot in a strong team.

With C. Lynch, Hayes, O’Donoghue, Pat Ryan, Richie Mac, Cahill, Dempsey, Nash, Gillane, KOB all as options from the bench. Which would be quite a strong bench.

Did Richie Mac’s father play for Limerick, anyone know?

No he did not but his great grandfather playing in the early 1920s.

Is it Jackie McCarthy you are thinking of? Once of Ardpatrick but got dragged into Kilmallock when the Kilmallock parish boundary was enlarged* in the 70’s?
More lately there was Pat McCarthy who used to be a full forward. Got brought onto the Limerick team in the 80’s and dropped to accommodate Joe McK. Came back and played a year or 2 in the late 80’s early 90’s. As far as I know Richie is not either of theirs.

* the boundary wasn’t actually enlarged Kilmallock just grabbed all the decent hurlers in the South division

Richie is not related to those McCarthy’s as far as I know. They all live on the Ardpatrick road just above the Cross o’ Black. Jackie was a flaking hurler. Unfortunately he had to move to Kilmallock club to play with a proper team. Think Pat played in one or both of the league finals in 83&84.

He isn’t.

Just checking at the top and @carryharry and @myboyblue have over 530 posts between them on this thread alone since last July.:joy:

Who?

Bad boys

Pat McCarthy came into the panel for the league that commenced in the autumn of 1984. He played in the league final of 1985, scoring 2 goals as Limerick walloped an Eamonn Cregan-managed Clare.
He was moved from full to corner forward to accommodate the return of Joe McKenna for that year’s championship games against Waterford and Cork.
He played on until 1988 but Limerick never got the best out him. From what I recall, he could take or leave hurling, and wasn’t generally bothered by anything.

85 right thanks. Pat’s an alright sort.
