Yeah, I do.
What was the point in him speaking those sentences so?
I’d say he was asked a combination of different questions and gave a combination of different answers to the different questions - I’m sure he will have plenty to say to his players behind closed doors but you’re creating something out of nothing here.
Correct. It is not Kiely’s fault that the sensationalist Indo sub editor has chosen to take one minor part of a post match interview and made something of it. Unfortunately some people only read the headline and not the measured quotes which don’t tally with it.
So he blames the newspaper as well @ChocolateMice
I think yesterday was a creditable performance from a team that involved seven or so debutants at this level and a lot of very young players, and including an entirely new half back line. There was a lot to build on and Byrnes and Hegarty would have made a difference.
A few things my opinion is confirmed on: James Ryan is a warrior but is just too limited a hurler at this level, we need to find a replacement partner for Browne; Dowling should be full forward; Hayes an outstanding prospect but not ready to lead the line from full forward; Mulcahy should be used from the bench only and he probably still offers more than Morrissey or Gillane as an impact sub.
Finn was outstanding. Hannon was very good and hickey was good. Dempsey did well too.
We’re a very light team and I would worry about a full back line of Finn english and Casey in the physicality stakes. Similarly Nash needs to start in the full forward line to add ball winning ability, Casey Hayes and Mulcahy was always going to be far too light. I think McNamara is an excellent goalie and should start.
I hope Kiely has learned from this game. Please god he doesn’t persist further with Dowling at wing forward, it is completely counterproductive, it robs of us a major scoring threat and vision up front and as hard as he tries other players will always be more effective at tracking back the field. I also thought Gavin should have been brought on, we lacked someone to steady things down going down the home stretch when the game was still within grasp. O’Mahony needs to be accommodated in the team somewhere, our inexperience was very visible yesterday. Something like:
McNamara
Finn
English
Casey
Byrnes
Hannon
Hickey
Browne
Lynch
Hegarty
O’Mahony
Hayes
Casey
Dowling
Nash
There big men and have the makings of a great team hard luck
Fair play Joe
Limerick could do with two Kyle hayes. One at half forward and one at full forward. Your continued defending off dowling is bizarre. It’s laughable last year you were saying he could turn into a Tj Reid or Seamus Callahan.
Kylie is a lovely hurler
Will you give me a break, Joe… You’ve been rubbing salt in the wounds all day.
Spoke with a fella there who reckons Kiely is playing the long game. If he had completely gone with youth, for example dropped Richie for English, dropped James Ryan, dropped Mulcahy etc that the inevitable defeat or trimming while they found their feet would be met with typical Limerick over reaction and calls for the older lads to be reinstated. He’s now in the position of having had an underwhelming performance, without being hammered and with a nice few positives from it. He also now has license to make a few big calls too. I said I’m not so sure that much foresight exists in any county, not to mind in Limerick ffs. An interesting way to look at it all the same.
Eoghan McNamara was asked to join the panel at the start of the year but couldn’t commit due to his studies in Dublin.
You lunatics will find the silver lining in any balls of a situation.
It’s the only thing to keep us sane after all these years of heartbreak…or maybe keep us steadily but safely insane
What do expect us to do, turn out like treacherous poisonous Bastards like the Galway crowd? We’ve got to look on the bright side mate
I was really impressed with large parts of our game yesterday. If we cut the soft goals out we will take serious beating.
That’s rich coming from a guard.
That was v disapointing yesterday.
Clare were 10 pts better…missed 1-4 from frees in the last 7/8 mins…and T Kelly was anonymous.
11 wides in the first half killed us…we had the breeze but aimless shooting again like that is soul destroying.
We have to learn from it, big calls to be made by management…2 of our FB line were in big trouble.
Dowling has to go in full forward, Kyle Hayes centre forward, Cian Lynch to midfield.
Richie English needs to now be tried at full back…Richie mac has been a great servant but his time’s up.
5 debutants was always going to be a huge ask…that 6/7 minutes in the first half when we scored 1-5 without reply gives me hope that we can have a decent run in the qualifiers.
Richie English pulling and dragging out of Shane O Donnell in the 2nd half was great to see.
There’s no way he would have walked in for his 2nd goal if Richie has been marking him from the start.
What age is Richie McCarthy lads I see fellas saying he’s been a great servant etc is he 35 or 36?
30 or so
