The question becomes then, not who’ll drop out of the top 4… but will any one break into it through strength of numbers or sheer hard work?
Nap have some incredible advantages that other clubs don’t. They’ll be like the Dublin footballers. Monaleen and Mungret are the only clubs who’ll consistently compete.
They mightn’t win every year but the strength in numbers and age of their key players should mean they make semi-finals most years at least.
Boylan is U-21, the brother U-20. Both Caseys, Grimes, Lynch are all still U-25.
Kilmallock have some good young fellas but still rely on the older lads to a certain extent.
McEvoy can add to that as well. And Henn. Jaysus ya, they won’t be falling back any time soon.
You’d like to see someone make the breakthrough all the same. The current structure is set up so one of them will win it every year. It’ll be near impossible get a situation like Bruree winning it again
If you make it to the top group, you arguably only have to beat one of those teams to make a quarter-final. You’d be up against it alright but it’s not impossible.
Fair enough but all those clubs still have an awful lot to prove at senior level . Garryspillane have a great crop at 18-19 ; Mungret and monaleen have potential and big numbers but all these 3 are still a long long way off current top 4
so you’ve to win a tough group to get there. Then beat one of the best teams in the county just to get to a quarter, then you’d be playing the 2 best teams in a semi and a final.
You might get lucky once…
Mungret and Monaleen could turn it into a big 6 in the next few years, hopefully someone like Garryspillane will use their underrage success too in the future. The structure in place in Mungret is class in fairness, they will compete
Garryspillane have a small enough pick though haven’t they?
It’ll be mungret and monaleen and nap. Nap have too many advantages for smaller rural clubs to compete with them on a regular basis.
Bruree has a good team them with an inspirational leader but to be honest it wasn’t a vintage standard that year . They were well beaten by an average Shannon team in Munster club . The standard currently is miles higher .
Garryspillane is the biggest club in limerick membership wise and probably has most pull at county board level. A huge club.
Not huge but they get Galbally hurlers
that’s what I’m saying… even in non vintage years teams like that won’t have a chance of winning the county in the current structure. They’ll be wore down playing better teams all the way
They do but tbf so do the Well. There’s some nice young lads in Garryspillane, maybe not enough to properly compete at the top level
I agree totally, at the moment, they’re not even close.
And to be honest, despite the numbers, Monaleen have done nothing at underage level over the past 4/5 years, we’ve beaten them regularly tbh.
The secondary school in Hospital is going well isn’t it, in the hurling?
It is but may have peaked although they are going Harty next year
Monaleen will depend hugely on the school in Castletroy for hurlers… They don’t have a strong hurling tradition, sure they’re mainly a football club
Thanks to Garryspillane
