Probably the best example you could find actually.
Youâre welcome.
And Donie of course
You canât teach what Donie has mate. Pure X-Factor stuff.
What we wouldnât give for a Dodge now - badly missed.
Fair enough, but before Richie got his claws o him he was just another top class corner forward, not the all time great he became.
Would there be many of the current crop would have made the 2007 team?
1 Brian Murray
2 Damien Reale
3 Stephen Lucey
4 SĂŠamus Hickey
5 Peter Lawlor
6 Brian Geary
7 Mark Foley
8 DĂłnal OâGrady
9 Mike OâBrien
10 Mike FitzGerald
11 Ollie Moran
12 SeĂĄn OâConnor
13 Andrew OâShaughnessy
14 Brian Begley
15 Donie Ryan
Fitzgerald, Moran & OâConnor. Now thatâs a ball winning half forward line
I genuinely donât think being stuck in 1B is as big a disaster as some would have you believe. Galway favourites for the AI and it doesnât look like it has done them any harm so far.
Obviously would prefer to be in the top flight but itâs not the be all and end all IMO.
Weâre guaranteed two decent matches against Galway and Dublin in the group stages and another in the league quarter final.
To harbour any ambitions of getting promoted weâd have to hope Galway win the AI and go on the beer for three months. And catch them on the hop in Salthill in a potential first round match.
Iâve always thought this also that 1B wasnât a big issue.
However, I now think a few years in 1A (in itâs current form) would have benefited and will benefit our younger players development massively.
As a once off 1B is ok - But having young players like Lynch, Casey, Dempsey etc. getting the shite flaked out of them at close quarters in winter over a number of years will stand to them⌠The pace of 1A games at times reaches almost championship levels - two good challenges and a QF is not bad to be fair but the problems for the last 6/7 years is that we were getting one game and the likes of Dowling/Hannon/Downes/ Browne were left playing dross and havenât pushed on.
Relax the championship rejig will be pushed through and for once it will help our young side develop by giving them games against the better sides more frequently.
Disagree. We are down there seven years now. Galway just had a one year blip when they went down, can hardly remember the last time they were relegated.
It is a huge disadvantage, one or two decent league games in which we usually fuck up in one or both. Then a few worthless games where we learn nothing.
We usually find out our best team set up after the first game in Munster. No good.
Should call it what it is too, division two. 1B my arse.
Agreed, you develop bad habits playing against inferior opposition as well which are hard to correct when it matters.
Galway will be hungover after their AL win when we meet them in Feb - We will dismantle Dublin and lose to Offaly.
On paper, a few of the current forwards are more talented than the 2007 crowd. But in terms of delivering on the pitch?
I do think we have a better panel up to 26 now. Wasnât much on the bench in 07 beyond Tobin in the forwards. Mark Riordan and Dinny Moloney were good backs tbf.
Denny Moloney did not hurl in 2007
I thought he came on the second day against Tipp? What year did he get a good runout?
2009 against Waterford?
Walter Walsh was a very good minor
