I was a steward in the Mackey Stand that day and avoided getting fried by the blazing sun. I had the same job a few weeks later for the drawn Munster Final. Willie Barrett arrived in the stand with a shit ticket for the old Section O, which was nearly behind the endline at the City End. I commented to my colleague that you’d think a leading referee, as he was at the time, would have had a better ticket.
