Yeah, as far as I know, theyāre gone that weekend. We might get one game in each code in April now.
You know what will happen here. The football matches will be played on a Wednesday evening at 7 pm. Each player will have to pay ā¬5 to cover the cost of foodlights.
Sad but unfortunately fairly accurate.
The ground should start firming up now as we move into April. There is absolutely no point in wasting that on football. November is looking fairly free at the moment.
Cancel the football, and play one round of the hurling.
Murmurs of the prospect of The Beast From the East III (āThis time itās personalā) on the horizon too.
In fact what will actually happen how is that after gaining promotion and beating Clare, John Kiely will never have as much power. He is going to demand that all hurling club matches are deferred. The football Club Championship is to be run off in the month of April with the final on the May Bank Holiday week end. The Limerick hurling panel will be in a training camp for the month prepping for the Munster Cāship. This wil be rubber stamped by the big house and April will still be a club month albeit a football club month.
Even thats not too bad as long as the football is out of the way
The Lattedrinkers could also latte the absolute fuck out of it for a few months after the Cuala replay without having to worry about championship round the corner.
And Limerick GAA blame it all on Croke Park for fucking up their calendar with the deferments
Donāt think thatāll happen in Creganās first year as chairman.
Weāll get one round of each, I reckon. There are still a few players who are key players for their football clubs and they will refuse point blank to play without them. Most notably Gearoid Hegarty.
Cregan will do as the big house bids.
The club are again being shat upon . And people are wondering why the GAA is utterly holllowing out in Limerick .
The board havenāt a pot to piss in and can find money for a training camp .
Forever
They can fuck off back to Kerry if they want to play football.
All the lovely rich flat land we have and you have lads who want to play football on it, like itās some godforsaken half a rood of rock thatās about to fall into the Atlantic.
Football is ok for the less skilled and not too bright lads.
The AIB All-Ireland Club SHC Final replay between Cuala and Na Piarsaigh will be played in OāMoore Park, Portlaoise this Saturday at 5.30pm
Still a load to work on if we want to have a proper go at Championship, but Iād be of the opinion that weāre better off playing good teams now and trying to iron those issues out now in a halfway competitive match rather than relying on challenges & training.
We played the most consistently indisciplined team over the past few years and yet they scored 15 frees to our 11. Thatās way too many. We worked really hard and put in some good tackles but that is a scandalous number of scoreable frees to concede. Iām not in favour of wholesale changes or anything but I expect Kiely and his team to heavily analyse those frees. Any player who conceded 2 or more frees needs to improve his discipline.
Iām not sure what the wide count was in the end but it must have been over 20, which again is awful. And there were others dropped short too. Itās not something Iād panic about because thereās plenty of time to rectify it, but thatās a serious amount of wides two games in a row and matches and defending is only going to get more intense. Again, anyone who missed 2 or more chances needs to look at whether theyāre making the right decision when shooting. Tom Morrissey, for example, is someone Iād consider a very accurate shooter usually but he missed a lot of chances. Still worked very hard and created chances for others though.
Clare stood off us completely at puckout time so we went short most of the time.
I was hugely impressed with our use of the ball. Low diagonals into the corners, thatās the fucking job. Gillane was hit time after time and he roasted his man tbh.
Bench made a big impact - most obviously Malachy and Pat Ryan Simon, 1-3 between them. But the others did well too, I thought. Certainly building a panel and competition for places should be ferocious when everyone is back.
And lads, that run from Hegarty. Carried the ball about 60 metres with about 3 different fellas taking a cut off him to foul him. The man is fucking class, a proper Limerick hurler. First name on the teamsheet arguably, heās a leader and an absolute warrior.
