Limerick GAA - it's Box Office - Always Has Been, Always Will Be

Gillane flaked Jack Browne off the ball a few minutes before his 1st goal near the open stand. He would’ve seen red if the linesman had seen it, needs to cool the jets a small bit on another day we would’ve seen red for sure.

Certainly its fantastic to see the lads been able to mix it. Just needs to be a bit more controlled especially in the summer when there is far more attention on the game.

We’ll need everyone on the field…can’t afford stupid suspensions.

That was certainly coming to him. I’ve a feeling that there was needle between the two of em prior to yesterday.

Tbf, he had his hand on O’Donnells back each time and we all know the saying.

I was impressed with Limerick yesterday for the following reasons,

  • they look really fit & well Conditioned
  • work rate is extremely good
  • new players definitely the pick so far
  • substitutions making a big impact, depth of panel impressive.

Negatives,

  • concession of frees, way too many
  • shooting accuracy is poor
  • distribution from the backs, Hickey & Byrnes were woeful yesterday

All in all they have definitely made strides forward this year. Flanagan & Gillane look like forwards to be building around as opposed to whether they’ll make starting team come Championship.
I saw Kinnerick entering the field remonstrating with officials again yesterday, that needs to be nipped in bud as it will drive referees against the team in 50/50 calls.
Also, starting games as slowly as they have done in the previous 2 games won’t do going forward. How Kiely counters this issue is key.

Finally, Byrnes. Obviously a fine hurler but he seems a tad uncontrollable to me. Again yesterday he was involved in off the ball stuff and was generally poor in conceding frees while again his distribution to the forwards was very average. Does this guy need a spell on the bench?

That I have no doubt about…I remember Browne goaded Seanie Tobin similarly in Munster Championship in 15 and got him sent off when Seanie reacted.

Luckily we won that game, but you cant strike out openly either nowadays with all the cameras which is unfortunate.

That was Pat O’Connor, pal.

Correct it was…both are always more than deserving of a flake anyway, mate.

A few fair points. I thought it looked harsh from the stands but tv and replays make things clearer. I think we are a long way off Tipperary but a game against them in two weeks should bring us on even more.

Out of interest, what would lads consider a succesful 2018 for us??

I think the work rate currently on show from LK could rattle Tipp’s relatively inexperienced players.
LK will be different to anything they’ve faced in 1A dependent on Beating Dublin of course.

Fear I’d have for LK is the scores they are conceding, 30 points yesterday is a massive total to be conceding.

No coincidence that none of these lads went to ard scoil ris

Qualification from the Munster round-robin would be the thing for me. A Munster Final appearance would be nice, but not vital. In fact, the extra game at that stage could even be a hindrance.

Once you make an AI quarter-final it opens up and anything can happen. The qualified Munster teams will be battle hardened but Galway, Wexford and Kilkenny, who will come through the weaker Leinster group will arguably be fresher.

You may be right. I think the one benefit is Tipperary are not blessed with players who has searing pace who would open you up very easily. I would still think Tipperary by 5/6 points.

Injuries are the game changer this Season. Teams won’t have the usual time to get Big Players right for games.
Deep squads an absolute must to thrive this Season.

For that reason I’d say Tipp, LK & Clare are the top 3 currently in Munster.

You have to watch that, the Waterford lads will start pissing themselves laughing at you now!!! I had it earlier when I dare suggested that also. The fact they don’t have a home ground does not help them either.

Cork & Waterford are strong 1-15 but will struggle off the bench imo. Results so far prove this tbf.

Promotion and get out of Munster.

Already achieved the first part. Four (or even three defeats) in the championship would really put a dampener on that. Summer over on June 17th, if not the week before.

Not expecting us to beat Tipp in May but the Cork game a fortnight later would be one I’m confident of getting a result in. Win one of the first two and then Waterford at home where both sides would fancy their chances…

Agreed…Winning 2 games could be enough to get us through? Is it on scoring difference or head to head if teams finish level?

You can’t have a good Limerick team without a few lads from the Well.

Very hard to make any call on the summer yet pal, getting out of 1B is huge though and a league semi v Tipp is bonus territory imo.

That game similar to yesterday will bring this young group on further again. Physically we’ll match anyone on the last two weeks viewings so we’ve every chance against Tipp with this momentum built up on still relatively heavy ground.

The championship is still a long way off, another game is ideal preparation though.
