Yes you are right realistically that is how Limerick are moving. The problem is that there should always be a path for the guy who is on the verge of a panel to come through. It should be seen as viable for a club player to break into the system. You might only get 3 or 4 through but they may be the difference at the end of the year
Thereās absolutely no way a lad could play with two clubs and possibly a senior county team? Can the senior club just cherry the best players from all the clubs around them?what about the lads that Played with the senior club all the way up? Youād finish gaa in ten years with that idea.
I am only outlining a possible way of doing it. There are going to have to be tuning of the system. Iād suggest limiting it to 2/3 players for each club. Maybe 2 from Junior and 1 from Intermediate. I donāt think these guys are doing a lot with their own clubs especially Junior players. For players that make the county panel, these could be a special designated players and maybe not available to the senior club for league.
I donāt think 3/4 additional players would ruin any club. I am only suggesting an outline as to how we get out of the site we are in at the moment where only 4 clubs are at the business end of the championship and hopefully improving the countyās chances of success.
There are a couple of things raised there which are interesting and worth discussing.
But that can wait, firstly - intermediate/junior clubs already barely ever see their best players because of intercounty without having them play for another club on top of that. All that would do in the long run is completely fuck over smaller clubs. What would be the point in inputting proper coaching at underage if youāll never really see the benefits?
And senior teams, shur why would they bother either, they know they can just cherrypick the best players from all their neighbouring clubs. Adare are already doing this, and their underage teams are falling by the wayside. Instead of addressing the real issue, they just go poaching. How is Limerick GAA benefiting there? And if I was Adare born and bred and losing my place to an outsider, I wouldnāt be happy either.
When would you play the matches if your suggestion was to become a reality?
There are a pretty limited number of dates available to play club games as it is. If the hurling reforms are passed those dates will reduce even further. Currently, all 3 grades of the championship are played over the same weekend. Are you suggesting that we revisit the farce of some years ago whereby players will have 2 games in 2 days - one with their club (which will be the only game that matters) and one with someone elseās club?
Its the guys not on county panels (or on the verge) are the guys that should be targeted here. The lad from Templeglantine makes it on to the county minor team a sub on the U21ās and then falls away because he is doing no serious hurling other than the 7/8 guys that turn up for training once a week.
Senior and Prem-Inter stay the same unless you change back to groups of 4.
Intermediate would have to be restructured. I know a lot of people would like the Junior restructured also.
I would play the Junior and Intermediate the same days. A lot more Friday night matches also. I would look at allowing no more than one week of a layoff before IC matches. The system here where we play fuck all in June and July is a joke. Oh and finish all games on the day. No replays for knock out matches.
I mentioned this some time back. At minimum smaller clubs should be seeking to pair up with others to train if they are not getting the numbers
Agreed.
If you doubt Junior or Intermediate Clubs, ādonāt do much trainingā then you donāt know much about it at all. Some of those clubs there you mentioned such as Templeglantine, Killeedy and likes of Tour, Monagea etc are all training 3 nights a week since late January/early February. Iām not sure what understanding you have of why some clubs are Junior but itās a fairly poor one.
Well junior clubs that train 3 nights a week since February are training more than most senior clubs. They should walk the county. There are clubs at Prem Intermediate who are struggling to get 8-10 players at training sessions. It ramps up in the weeks coming up to championship but upto 6-8 weeks away most clubs I know of struggle with numbers.
Or he could just not be a cunt leaving in the first place
Thinking a team should āwalk the countyā because they train 3 nights a week since February is another indication of your poor grasp on club hurling in Limerick. You also seem to be assuming that if a club train 3 nights a week they must get high numbers all the time. Iām guessing youāre not involved with any adult team at the moment or in the recent past???
Not sure if being serious.
Sorry I forgot you are an expert at Limerick club hurling.
Doon regularly hammer the bollox out of Tipp Senior Clubs in challenges. County Finalists Kiladangan being one example. Iām not sure what you find hard to believe about that assertion.
Challenges?
Na P and Kilmallock are proven top club teams. The Well are decent . Doon have real potential but lack something . Adare are in decline but can still put in the odd strong showing . Beyond that not great TBH.
The story in most counties is generally not too dissimilar .
NAP & Kilmallock is where the show ends in Limerick Senior Hurling.
Yeah. Senior Clubs I know of, including Doon, take them seriously as they are usually better preparation than shit County League games.
When did you see Doon in recent years, against who and what year?
