Ahh Doon, the Spurs of Limerick.
Flatter to deceive but ultimately will always let you down,
Kilmallock just had more in the forwards really.
It was a decent enough game, but Kilmallock reeled off 5 or 6 points in a row after Doon had pulled it back to 3. Very hard to stop a team at U-21 club level when they have 6 forwards who can actually score… okay, Barrett didn’t get one, but he’s a current county U-21 and played very well. His striking is a bit suspect but he’s a great worker. Then Woulfe was on fire, Houlihan is very accurate, the two O’Reillys and Connaghan too, who was very pacy.
Doon just didn’t have the same scoring options; Murphy was left standing in at full-forward with no ball going in in the first half with the wind. Scored a cracking goal in the end, but not enough.
It actually looks quite impressive from the pictures I saw on Twitter.
The Mackey Stand itself is still a disaster, and the terraces aren’t steep enough but they’re not going to demolish it & start again, so at least that’s a positive step that they didn’t have to do.
Actually his grandfather on his mothers side was from West Limerick as well.
St. Kierans or Athea stock I’d hazard a guess with a name like Woulfe. When St. Kierans were a Senior Hurling Team back in the day they had a few Woulfes playing with them.
Am I right to assume the City End Terrace will be the Limerick Terrace on Sunday week?

The Doon lads on the minor panel were playing last night. I had never seen Purcell before, but watching him last night, I would have thought he was a lot more than U-17. A big, strong unit, he scored three points from play last night and won some nice ball. Looked impressive.
Didn’t really notice Cormac Ryan at corner-back, but I would say that the Kilmallock corner-forwards had the better of matters in general. No shame in a 17 year old not being able to mark a senior panellist and someone as quick as O’Reilly though.
The Kilmallock lad, Daly, didn’t play. Whether he’s still U-16, I don’t know.
I think we shouldn’t be going into too much depth of lads performances on under 16 and under 17 sides. Particularly club sides. Far too many people look in here for information.
As of now, unless there is a vastly increased demand for tickets, the City End will be the only terrace in operation on the 20th.
Will this game break the 20,000 barrier I wonder? The GAA doing sweet FA to promote it as usual

LIMERICK GAA secretary Mike O’Riordan has urged hurling supporters to purchase Munster SHC tickets “right now”.
Tickets are all four Limerick games in the new-look Munster championship went on public sale on Tuesday May 1.
In the first week of sale, thousands have purchased tickets.
This Thursday afternoon, over 10,200 tickets were sold for Limerick v Tipperary in round one in the Gaelic Grounds on May 20.
Limerick’s other home game is the June 10 tie with Waterford and already over 6,000 tickets have been pre-purchased.
Limerick travel away to Pairc Ui Chaoimh and Cusack Park.
The Limerick v Cork game is on Saturday June 2 and over 6,500 tickets have been bought in the first week.
Much attention has already focused on the final round group game between Limerick and Clare.
”Tickets are now available for all games and there won’t be any major obstacle for those games - the only game will be the Clare game,” Limerick GAA secretary Mike O’Riordan told this Tuesday’s May County Board meeting in Claughaun.
While Limerick and Clare don’t meet until the final round of group games on June 17 in Cusack Park in Ennis, the Shannonside derby has captured the public imagination.
”There are 1600 stand tickets only available for that game and I can’t see them being made available to the general public given the requirements of players, sponsors, etc. Whatever limited resources we get we will make available to the clubs,” said the secretary of the Limerick-Clare game.
”If there are tickets available, which there are, I would advise to buy right now if you are intending to go to Limerick and Clare,” he stressed.
”19,000 is the maximum it can take,” said O’Riordan of the Ennis venue.
This Thursday morning, almost 7,500 tickets were sold from the 17,500 that will go on pubic sale.
With a confirmed capacity of just under 19,000 in Cusack Park, roughly one-third of tickets for Limerick v Clare are now sold. There is less pressure in Cork and Limerick where capacity should more than cater for the demand.
RTE confirmed this week that the Limerick-Tipperary will be televised live, while Sky Sports confirmed that the Limerick-Cork game will be shown live.
The Limerick games with Waterford and Clare could yet be televised live on RTE but the schedule won’t be confirmed until after the results of the opening group games.
Tickets for all 10 games in the group stage of the Munster SHC are now on sale.
Tickets are priced at a pre-purchase price of €20 for stand tickets and €15 for terrace tickets if bought in advance of matchday. On matchday, stand tickets will be €25 and terrace €20.
Cusack Park in Ennis is the only difference – all admission will be €20 for pre-purchase and €25 on matchday.
Juvenile tickets (U-16) will be €5 no matter when they are purchased. Students and OAPs will received a €5 concession – as was the situation in previous years, they must buy at full price and then obtain the concession as a rebate.

New Munster Council CEO Kieran Leddy confirmed that it is now possible to sell a ticket package.
“The fact that our grounds are different in capacity and contain different amounts of seats, along with the existence of the GAA Season Ticket scheme, makes offering a ‘ticket package’ difficult”,” said Leddy.
