Limerick GAA - it's Box Office - Always Has Been, Always Will Be

At the weekend? Was it not a few weeks ago?

But yeah, not safe yet. I do think theyā€™d probably beat H/H or Kieranā€™s if it came to it.

I donā€™t know if Knockaderry will heat Claughaun/Old Christians though. Maybe if Condon and Hanley are both available, and if Byrnes is still out for Christians.

Sorry it was yeah

Hanley hasnā€™t been playing all year I heard?
Is Oā€™Sullivan still playing with them?

Which Oā€™Sullivan? Havenā€™t they like 4? All playing last time I saw them anyway.

Diarmuid the lad who played in the minor all Ireland final that time was the one I meant but thereā€™s a shot of them alright

Thereā€™s a Donagh, Donal and Liam too. I actually canā€™t remember if Diarmuid was playing. Liam was probably the best of them this year.

JL? Excellent coach.

Yeah thatā€™s him.

He had a stint with the Limerick camogie team too, I think. Meant to be a top class operator.

Our lads still rave about him, got us over the line after a rake of near misses in the previous five or six years.

He was with the camogie as well alright. He was Limerick Intermediate coach for 2 years I think. Had a stint with Killeedy and Croagh too I think (Could be wrong about Croagh).

Drom wanted him to coach the hurling at one point but he said no as he was worried he wouldnā€™t get the commitment with the football taking priority.

Hes not coaching anyone at the moment as far as I know.

JL is an excellent coach. Great to relate to players, good training sessions and a good motivator.

Only place he falls down is on the sideline during games. Panics a bit and not great to spot switches. A lot of good coaches are like that, actually. There was another involved with my own club who was flawless leading up to games and could go to pieces during them. Strange, but not uncommon, trait.

I think you see that all the time. I think itā€™s to do with getting so obsessive with everything that youā€™ve done in preparation in the build-up, sometimes you can be blind to something obvious thatā€™s happening on matchday.

I think the key is to have people in your backroom team who are more coldly analytical on matchday in judging the ebb & flow of the game, and how the match-ups are going, etc. And obviously you have to trust/listen to those people.

JL a super club coachā€¦heard heā€™s not training anyone because he wants a break from it. But Iā€™m sure heā€™ll return again to some side soon. Also a very good point regarding good coaches not being great on the line. Different skillset really and not every good coach has both. Reverse is true also, good motivators/team managers who are good on the line and in the dressing room arenā€™t always the best for coaching sides

A former Limerick camogie and intermediate club hurling coach only known by his initials is getting a lot of exposure today, is his name top secret?

I suppose itā€™s one reason why pinning all your hopes on one manager to deliver success is a bit mad; it has to be a backroom team really. And manufactured backroom teams with big names donā€™t always work, you do need to be comfortable working with each other.

A good skills coach, a good man manager/motivator and a good tactical/analytical mind are all essential for a team at any level really.

No comment.
