Not one from Kilmallock. We’re in trouble!
Is that our colleagues son #3 from the Stakers?
Those lads need a future
It is indeed. Well spotted.
Tom Gs son should have been on it also. Don’t really know why not
Hope he’s more mobile than his father:)
Kilmallock don’t have a team in Division 1 of the U-14 hurling, which in itself is surprising. I can’t remember that happening before.
NAP ain’t doing too hectic at underage either.
Won no game in Division 1 of the u16 hurling and for the second year in row have been very poor at u14, including giving a walkover in one match. They also pulled out of the u14 football completely earlier in the year.
I see plenty of teams giving walkovers at 14s level but surely NaP have huge numbers? Whatever about not doing well, they should be able to field teams.
Numbers falling off a cliff at underage I’ve heard for a while.
That’s incredible, why is that happening?
One thing to lose them at minor, but to lose them by u14 is shocking.
They are blaming demographics as family get older in their core area. I laughed at the man that told me that as the demographic from Meelick to Corbally to the Crescent is huge.
The demographic of the area of the area with 40,000 people is against them alright
It’s a wonder there is any teams outside of the city if that’s the case.
For years we were getting massive numbers of young kids down on the Saturday mornings, that’s basically what drove everything, and that’s dropped massively from what I’ve heard. Changing demographics in the area and caherdavin school in particular possible reasons.
Scumbags moving from Moyross into Caherdavin?
What are you saying, less ‘Irish’ kids in Caherdavin?
They appear to have completely ignored the more disadvantaged schools in the area that don’t have any other club to call their own, has anybody from Ballynanty, Moyross, Kileely ever played senior hurling for NAP?
Couldnt tell you but it’s a good point. There’s propably just going to have to be more work done to get the numbers down that arrived before.
Look at the teams in the same division that can field teams- Cappamore, Knockainey, Oola, Galbally, Bruff, Ballylanders, Kilpeacon, Ballyagran/Bruree.
Cappamore seem to be flying in both codes at that grade, serious work being done in Doon/Oola too.
NaP have done great work in recent times in maximising their resources, have dominated underage hurling, become senior in football. And produced some very skilful hurlers. But you can’t afford to rest on your laurels, there is no excuse for not finding 15 U-14s to play a bit of football.
Do they have people willing to be coaches?
Fuck the football give em hurleys
Well they’re playing hurling at that level, if not that successfully but they’ve always had a few decent footballers too.
The problem with kids and sport is that the drive to specialize in a sport is getting younger and younger. Especially the talented kids that play 3 or 4 sports the pressure with development squads in all sports means that the time pressure is becoming crazy especially if both parents are working.
The number of clubs that are struggling to field u14’s is a huge concern. Look at the teams and the amount of “traditional” areas that have to amalgamate to field teams is crazy. This is probably being masked by the numbers that are there up tou8/ u10/u12 but in reality the clubs are no more than outdoor creches on a Saturday/Sunday morning for most parents.
