He got them hooking and blocking anyway.

O Grady solidified a broken county in 2011 but the style of game he wanted to play with the hurlers he had was a non runner .

That was Justin.

6 months of hooking training.

OGrady had them handpassing

The running and pop pass. You’d want to clone the Newtown lads for it

Yes and Tom Kenny .

I have and don’t regret it. At least there was a plan there.

In fairness he gave us a bit of hope after the previous wasted couple of years

He did. And we were very unlucky not to beat Dublin in 2011.

He brought organisation and professionalism to the set up which had been sorely missing. His game plan did not suit the players though. He’s an example of a guy that imposes the same game plan regardless of whether the players suit it or not.

Don’t disagree at all. Unlucky not to beat Dublin in 2011.

Yep. Possibly the worst thing about those bad years was that there was the guts of a good team there at all times.

Considering the low ebb we were at he did a decent job, getting promotion (before it was taken away from us in the boardroom) and desperately unlucky not to beat Waterford in Munster. Instilled a bit of professionalism and organisation which was badly needed.

His major failing was not sorting out the spine of the defence.

Throwing the toys out in his second stint left a sour taste.

While we are praising Cork men, thanks to Jerry Wallace and John Allen.

John Allen is a thoroughly decent sort

cORREct utter garbage about the players not suited to the game plan. The game plan was designed to improve the players. So many of that groups hurling improved no end under him. O Grady put in the building blocks for the 2013 munster win. He showed the squad what was needed/expected to be competitive at the highest level.

Winning that first Munster minor title in 30 odd years in 2013 was a small but crucial step, in hindsight. Just a monkey off the back after decades of getting the tar beaten out of us by Cork and Tipp in particular. Jerry Wallace played a big part in that success.

The players were there and were yearning to show that they could perform. DOG brought the professionalism needed after the shite that had gone before and that allowed the players to perform. Many of his positional selections were laughable though and his attempt to impose his style of play did not work. Allen immediately identified and sorted the problem positions that DOG had a blind spot to and from there developed a game plan that suited what was at his disposal. Allen a much more thoughtful and modern manager IMO.

Totally look at what we mined just from that team

The players weren’t there at all you clown. There was nothing there. The county was split in two the previous season. We literally had no keeper, no 3, no 6 or 11. We had nothing only a few very promising kids in hannon and downes. Bar dodge and at a push hickey we barely had one top level county player at the time. The group gavin, paul browne, james ryan, tom condon and richie mc really took over the squad from that season on.
