Limerick GAA, Still Getting Knocked Down

Yeah seemed mad that the boys would be dropped like that all of a shot given both have been regulars for years, Paudie more so .

Neither are injured.

Seanie should probably be ahead of Dan M in the pecking order at 5, Darragh is still very young, and I would have had Pat Ryan down from last years exploits at u21 as a better prospect for senior this year.

David Reidy needs a big game tomorrow night, lot of people from West Limerick saying he has what it takes, hope he shows it tomorrow night, be great to see him come through as another viable forward starter for the championship.

In fairness Paudie was taken off in the Munster league final against Clare at halftime from wingback, had a shocker.

Oā€™Donovan isnā€™t injured anyway. Heā€™s playing on some amount of teams though. Heā€™s starring for Mary I at the moment, then heā€™s got Limerick seniors + 21s, Doon seniors + 21s and heā€™s good at football too so has Oola seniors + 21s. OK the club stuff hasnā€™t kicked in yet and Iā€™m sure heā€™s not training for the clubs 21s teams at moment but still thatā€™s a fair load for a young fella. Cian Lynch is similar but he doesnā€™t have the football, probably playing soccer though. Its a lot.

Would like to find out Seanie Oā€™Briens status as heā€™s a nailed on championship starter IMO.

Yes Iā€™m aware of that but my point is it would have been strange to have gone from starter for years, starter v Clare and then 2-3 days later gone off the panel totally, as someone posted here.

It would be strange in a normal year, but this year very few established players are guaranteed a starting spot now such is the potential talent coming through.

Re Paudie, I think his a fine hurler, but I donā€™t know where Iā€™d put him in the 2016 Limerick team. Lot of viable options to put into midfield (which is his best position for me) and the half backline more importantly which needs the most surgery imo.

They only play football once the hurling finishes I believe.

Paudie is not up to IC. His distribution of the ball is v poor.

So is everyone elseā€™s on the Limerick panel

In fairness to him, couple of years ago he was picking off a couple of long range points in nearly every game from way out the field. His form has dropped since though.

Yeah, he has played a lot of games already this year in fairness. Flogging him at this time of year isnā€™t wise. Mind you I think heā€™s a better player than Fitzgibbon and Iā€™d have him starting rather than bringing him on if/when itā€™s too late.

I just think that team named has a lot of question marks over it. Dan Morrissey played nearly all pre season at full back and heā€™s now shifted out the field?

The fact is some hard ruthless decisions have to be made about some good servants in the squad and team but unfortunately as we head into the league they still havenā€™t been made. The stall should have been set out last November the way McGrath cut lads in Waterford even if it wasnā€™t the easy or popular decision.

Hate to be negative at the start of the year but we look like plodding along again in 2016 without strong leadership to steer the ship.

The likes of fitz arenā€™t really league hurlers either.

Thatā€™s all been covered, palā€¦2017 is our year.

Donā€™t think he has the athleticism needed at intercounty level to be honest. Didnā€™t really stand out in the Munster league in conditions similar to what can be expected tomorrow.

Tomorrow has ambush written all over it. Everyone expecting us to just show up and win pulling up. It has the feel of Offaly last season all over again.

Even bring in Graeme mul in the corner, move hannon to 12, Tom m to 14, lynch to 11 and drop Dan m instead of Gavin and dara o Donovan at midfield would have a much better look to it. Looks like hannon will be at 14 for the foreseeable future.

To be fair Hannon has been excellent from open play so far this year. His attitude seems much better, making the runs and fighting for everything. Itā€™s matches on bog pitches in January and February but he seems to have knuckled down. Keep him off the frees and I think heā€™ll have a good year.

Byrnes is the type of player Teege would love to have at 6 but heā€™s better at 5. Like others Iā€™m dubious heā€™ll step up to 6 this year. Heā€™ll definitely do for 5 though. Iā€™d like to see Oā€™Connell given a few goes at 6 or on the wing, he might not work out but would be a huge addition if he did. Gavin is still probably our best option for 6. Considering the options to come back in and the way some of the u21s are stepping up, Iā€™m not sure shifting Gavin to the forwards is the best use of resources.

They donā€™t necessarily have to line out that way. I mean they probably will, but maybe thereā€™s the possibility we might play a 3rd midfielder or something like that?

From that team, Iā€™d be giving Lynch a free role and then pull either Morrissey or Nash out to half-forward. Iā€™m not gone on Hannon as a full-forward but again, that seems to be the plan and heā€™s been playing there for Mary I too?

At least all of Morrissey, Byrnes and Hickey will contest in the airā€¦ but I worry about our own puckouts. Who are the ballwinners and do we have an alternative puckout strategy?

Fitzgibbon is a nice hurler but I really donā€™t think heā€™s good enough to be there. Iā€™d have Browne, Jim-Bob, Pat Ryan, Oā€™Donovan, Seanie Oā€™Brien, Paudie Oā€™Brien and Lynch all ahead of him in midfield.

Iā€™d be shocked if we played with a 3rd
Midfielder. The only one of the forwards that could move out is lynch and then youā€™d be left with Reidy, o Mahony, hannon, Nash and morrissey which is an incredibly slow forward line and lacks ball winners on both the half forward and full forward lines.

Strong enough team considering you are missing the Na Piarsaigh boys, looking at the team the lined out at this stage last year vs Waterford at least the new blood is being brought through: N Quaid; S Walsh, R McCarthy, S Hickey; D Oā€™Grady, W McNamara, T Condon; C King, P Browne; N Moran, G Oā€™Mahony, C Lynch; D Reidy, P Begley, A Breen.

The two keys would be to see how Byrnes at 6 and GOM at 11 go. There isnā€™t the need to give GOM a bit of game-time at half-forward for Kilmallockā€™s sake this year so thereā€™s genuine consideration being given to playing him there. Still think he might be the best option for 6 this year at least, has the experience and the distribution to feed the forwards. Hickeyā€™s form could go a long way to solving the half-back problems.

Midfield is gonna be a warzone, Browne/Jimbob(injured)/Pat Simon/Seanie Oā€™Brien/Fitzgibbon all contendersā€¦ Think Fitzgibbon has a lot to offer, all the skill in the world, but I would say we are missing a bruiser in that lineup.

Wexford dragged our full-back line all over the park last year in the first half and should have made hay only for absolutely dreadful shooting. Be interesting to see what nick Richie Mc is in.
