Limerick GAA, Still Getting Knocked Down

Glas, the real problem is trying to pin a forward into one single position. An intercounty forward should be able to switch and play 2 or ideally 3 positions.

Dowling has been largely ineffective at full-forward though under the Limerick system of playing one or two man full forward lines. He’s getting swamped too easily in there and without support, and is not getting on enough ball. He is probably better suited to half-forward now for us as we are lacking in that department and he is a big man who can win ball out there, plus he should be able to score more out there as once he gets that ball into hand he could put it over from most angles.

I just think that they have their mind made up on certain positions, with a small few up for grabs after the Na P crew come back. Goalie and full-back line will be the same in the championship as it was yesterday. Byrnes will be centre-back, Browne will be one midfielder with JimBob as his most likely partner. Hickey, for right or for wrong, will be accommodated somwhere, probably at wing-back.

Hannon (FF), Cian Lynch, and Gavin O’Mahony will be starting forwards. Dowling and Downes are the most likely to join them on their return. That basically leaves a wing-back and a wing/corner forward spot to be filled.

O Donoghue might be a wild card for midfield. Any word on seanie o brien?

based on what? He hasn’t played much since 2012 bar off the bench in 13. Has been poor enough there for the club too.

Fuck up, Coke head.

As I figured you haven’t a notion.

I still think Gavin is our best half back and unlike most seasons we have a lot of options around the half forward line. Surely Hickey should have been given a run in the corner. It is by far his best position.

But has Reidy not been mostly playing closer to goal in a 2-man full-forward line. Certainly against Wexford it was him & Hannon inside most of the time.

Dowling & Hannon could be left inside together, but it would probably be the least mobile full-forward line around. Both lads can move, but neither have top-end pace. That said, the way we play I don’t see the point putting a smaller guy in there- we don’t play a game to suit the likes of Mulcahy.

The only other thing is that would likely leave us with a callow enough half-forward line.

At the end of the day lads, things are tipping along nicely. Another 2 wins and the shackles are off. Win on Sunday and we’re guaranteed an extra game regardless.
Tj will need to put out his starting championship team against Clare ( bar the NAP lads of course) and should go full hog for the 1/4 finals

At the minute team for me come June would be,
Quaid
English
Richie
Condon
Hickey
Byrnes
Morrisey/Seanie OB
Browne
Jim-Bob
Lynch
Gavin
Dowling
Downes
Hannon
Nash
That team wont be too far off the odd positional switch aside.

I think Morrissey is going to force his way in. Nash also pushing hard.

With the “style” we tend to play, Barry Nash and Tom Morrissey are ideal corner forwards for us. Big strong lads who can fight for fairly shite ball and win it and are both fairly direct. I think Mulcahy is quality and Tobin is good too but do we play to their strengths, they rarely get the kind of ball they need to thrive

I think you’re right. Although it fills me with dread.

That’s a good point and true. But more likely Teege will stick him at wing forward and take him off if he’s not going great.

Teege will have them ready to go with Plan W.

He will have Downes , Hannon and Dowling all playing full forward (fuck this playing corner forwards) and the other 12 given instructions to whack it in long and high.
