The main thing is a lot of players need to be shifted soon. T O Brien, C King, P. Begley, D O Grady and C Allish and a couple more need to be thanked and moved on.
Which means his best position is full forward. He doesnāt have the legs for anywhere else and that lad is big, not necessarily fat, but a big man. He needs to be there and the forwards built around him.
Coaxing Hannon is a waste of time. He needs to have it laid on a plate for him. Play or stay at home. He is around long enough now to know what is required.
English isnāt a corner back. He is without question deserving of at least opportunities to make the No. 3 jersey his own. Diarmuid Byrnes i think is a definite starter next year, whether that be at No. 5 or No. 6. Preferably iād like Byrnes or OāConnell tried at the expense of Gavin who was just pluggin a hole at CB at the expense of better options. Finally we have two promising CB options coming through in Byrnes and OāConnell.
Barry Nash wonāt start next year. I think Tom Morrissey is a more ready made option than Nash who is not quite up to that level yet. Bring him onto the panel by all means.
Itās lads like that who do need to be replaced, who have either never really shown the quality for intercounty hurling, as harsh as that may be or in Dodgeās case getting on in age. Some lads talking about dropping starters from this year is a bit hasty.
Bring in a few of the 21s and let them fight it out for places. Like the U-21s, the team should be picked in form. Nobody should be guaranteed spot, competition is good for everybody. I imagine the likes of Condon & Jim-Bob, for example, would not like their positions being under threat and Iād expect them to up their game. Hopefully youād get the same from Hickey, Hannon and the rest too.
I think Nash will surprise a lot of people next season. T. Morrissey is a natural full forward but I canāt see him getting in ahead of Dowling until we have an alternative free taker at least.
Iād give Finn another year with the 21s; would have had Casey as the more likely of the two tbh. No doubting Finn is a quality player though.
Byrnes is a more ātraditionalā centre-back, whereas OāConnell has done well in the deeper role with the 21s & LIT. I think if we were to learn anything from Kiely, itās that the half-back line have to be able to win their own ball regularly.
For a natural full forward Tom Morrissey didnāt play half bad in the U21 final from centre forward, chipping in with four points from play, should have scored a goal or two himself, setting up chances for others, being a general nuisance for poor Wexford. Morrissey can play a few positions.
Read that article today, an exercise in sucking up to his superiors. Heāll have his snout in the Limerick GAA trough for a while yet until Clare come calling again at which time heāll drop us in jig time.
That is not true re Lynch he wasnāt fit and everyone knew no matter what he was only going to last 40 minutes. He started I reckon mainly because of the frees.
It was madness to get rid of Wallace after he helped win those two Munster minor titles. He is top class and heād be the person Iād have given the Director of Hurling role to.
Members of 2012 limerick squad speak so highly of him still. He is an outstanding coach.
Remember Kiely goose was nearly cooked v Tipp in the first round when McCarthy saved us. In classic Limerick fashion weād have written off the whole panel. Perspective is needed.
When talking about dropping Hannon, Downes, Hickey et al, isnāt it worth recalling that it (reportedly) wasnāt a happy camp this year? A heap of them were awful and the league game against Dublin absolutely set the tone.
Iām amazed TJ is still in situ but Iān sure thereās some underhand reason for it which I shall be trying to find out.
Listen ā¦ Fuck off. You call up a training panel, play Waterford Crystal and then drop a few lads off panel. You then let the lads at it during training and give game time to some of the younger lads during the leagueā¦ When the conditions get better you really let the lads at it during training and whoever emerges, starts. None of them young lads are guaranteed nothing- fuck off with your 21 title, this is a different ball game altogether. Letās see how they react to the likes of Condon flaking the fuck out of em at training let alone what some of the opposition will give themā¦ There is competition for places which is great but C Lynch aside, youāll probably only see 2/3 of the other 21s feature.
