Iâve seen him play a few times myself and infairness heâs looked good. This in know way changes the fact that Iâve seen him cry on the field more times than I care to remember
is this the lad that plays centre back with ard scoil ris in harty?
Yeah and cente forward with Adare currently.
I sincerely hope he isnât called up at this early stage in his career. Others they could consider:
Sean Tobin - Murroe/Boher
OâConnell - Adare
Sexton - Adare
OâBrien - Kilmallock
Steven Cahill - Croom
But these are all forwardsâŚ
Sean Tobin is far too light/slight for intercounty at the momentâŚIs OâBrien Paudie OâBrien, he has potential and is a fine dynamic hurler but isnât a forward IMHO, far more suited to midfield or if he toughened up a bit half back
12 being dropped from the panel. This is going to get ugly lads, mark my words
whereâd you get this from Sledge?
Sledge knows the score
Can any of the lads being touted to come into the panel actually strike the ball cleanly?
Fancy hurling will get you nowhere Bandage.
AOâS definitely gone - mental burn out and maybe the manager thinks heâs doing him a favour? Burn-out my bollox, just how many games have they played over the past few years, how many BIG GAMES??? I ask you :mad::mad:

McCarthy wields the axe at Limerick
By Martin Kiely
Friday, October 30, 2009
LIMERICK senior hurling manager Justin McCarthy has sensationally
dropped several high-profile players from the panel that took part in
this yearâs league and championship.
Gone from the panel are full-back Stephen Lucey, along with corner-back
Mark OâRiordan, forwards Niall Moran and Andrew OâShaughnessy and
veterans Donie Ryan and Mike OâBrien.
In total McCarthy has dropped 12 of this yearâs panel with only 20
players surviving.
The remaining members of the panel met with the team management this
week and McCarthy said: "I am sure that many teams will be making
changes and we are no different in Limerick. The time has come to bring
in some new blood and give them a go at inter-county level. The mind-set
to survive at this level has to be right and we have to change that.
âItâs our job to exact the best from the players and I was very happy to
see that many of our young lads are looking forward to getting back
hurling. Places are up for grabs and lads will have to prove to us that
they are willing to make the necessary sacrifices that are required to
survive at this level.â
McCarthy has been in charge of Limerick for less than 12 months and his
charges had a decent league run before losing to Waterford after a
replay in the Munster Championship.
Subsequently they had wins over Wexford, Laois and Dublin but lost
heavily to Tipperary in the All-Ireland semi-final.
Long before McCarthy took over in Limerick there had been difficulties
with some players in relation to discipline but he stressed that that
wonât be tolerated going forward.
"To be successful in any walk of life one has to be very disciplined and
of course there are always side attractions,ââ he said. "They will
always be people who will put you on the wrong track, always guys that
will try and break the system and try things on. We werenât fooled by
people who may have stepped out of line in the past year.
"It didnât have a huge effect but going forward I will not tolerate that
- we have to have a better code of discipline, players have to be honest
to themselves, their fellow players and the management and not be
foolish enough to alter their commitment because to succeed you canât
take risks or stupid chances and hope that it will work out because it
really doesnât."
Limerick will begin working towards 2010 tonight when the remaining
members of this yearâs panel will play a trial match under lights. Under
the new guidelines from Croke Park this is the only match that the
members of this yearâs panel can play.
Over the next few weeks Limerick will hold further trials and its
thought that close on 50 players will be looked at.
âThe day you stop working itâs over, of course,â says McCarthy. "We were
all disappointed to lose the way we did to Tipperary but we will begin
working in very early January to try and climb our way back up that
ladder.
"Limerick is a proud hurling county and I know already from the players
that they wonât be found wanting when it comes to hard work in 2010. To
make the breakthrough will require everyone to put their shoulders to
the wheel and to have a clear focus of where we want to go.
âWe can sit in the room with the lights off but I can tell you we will
be turning them on in Limerick.â
wouldnt have an issue with that, im sure Shaughnasy will be back at some stage down the line and lucy is fucked anyway and if we are going to be down for a few years we may as well be building something.
would never had happened with an internal manager btw.
Surprised at Niall Moran being dropped though heard a rumour yesterday that he wanted out.
The trial match is bullshit, if McCarthy and/or his selectors attended enough games over the summer then they should have been able to identify potential talent. Many of the players attending this trial game may not have hurled in the last two months if their clubs were eliminated from competitive action. How are they suppossed to impress under those circumstances?

might be more interested in who cares enough to turn up rather than how they play?
anyone know where/when the match is on?

Its on tonight, has to be held before 1st Nov(no county acvtivity allowed nov-dec). Think its on at Staker-Wallace ground in Martinstown. No doubt JP will give a look down from his mansion!
The tfk exclusives thread is pretty much redundant these days, such is the regularity with which I keep turning them out as a matter of routine
same shit, same team more like.
HBV may be right in his theory that a limerick manager would never have lasted long enough to perform this kind of surgery.
bennis may have intended it, but was ousted before he had the chance.
dave keane would probably have done it long ago, if left in situ long enough.
justin is the first manager to survive a debacle like the tipp game and be given the time to correct what he sees as the underlying faults in the panel. at the very least, as an approach, itâs worth a try. no point firing another manager and hiring another compromise candidate.
we needed a wake up call. whatâs the point in hanging on to the same faces year after year hoping that theyâll miraculously reverse the trend of years of underachievement (with one obvious exception)
better invest time on the coaching field with a bunch of young, motivated lads who are willing to listen and wonât jangle their u-21 medals at every manager who has the temerity to criticize them.
played there once, fucked if i can remember where the pitch is.
anyone know if that pitch is easier get to from the tipp town side or the limerick city side?

If you head out the Tipp town road from kilmallock it is on the left before Elton, the old pitch was on the right.
