The natural order in Munster is confirmed once again. Now for Klare in semi.

SS**, where did this craic of spelling Clare with a K come out of, I see most of the fucktard GAEJ tools over on premierview spell it with the K…

I think it’s something to do with Ku Klux Klare or something?

Hard to know what to make of yesterdays game. Obviously the result is the most important thing and at least they were able to grind out the win when they had their backs to the wall for long periods of the 2nd half but I was disappointed to see our old failings return in a lot of missed chances, failure to close out a game and the lack of a plan B when things start to go against us in the middle.

I thought our full back line was solid yesterday, a couple of hairy moments but on the whole they were good. Especially at pushing the Tipp full forward line out the field and forcing them to shoot from distance. Tipp tried to isolate Gallagher and the big full forward but Gallagher coped well with him, broke away a lot of ball and put in a few big hits when required. Johnny McCarthy had a bit more trouble from Grogan and was caught rotten for the goal but on the overall scheme of things I think he got the better of that battle. At times we ran ourselves into trouble trying to run the ball from the full back line and ended up turning over possession but I suppose that it one of the risks associated with the type of game we play. Sometimes i would rather see them just boot the ball to the big men at midfield rather than see our corner back trying to beat two men on his on 20m line.

The half back line had a mixed afternoon. Lucey was solid enough in the middle and came into it when the chips were down in the last 10 mins. Lavin I thought had a shocker, everything he touched went wrong. His delivery was poor and he tried two crazy shots on goal in the first half. I don’t know why they persevered with him for so long and seemed to moving players out of position to accomodate keeping him on the pitch. Padraig Browne tightened things up a lot when he went back there and made some super catches and drove the team on when it was needed. On the other side I thought Pa Ranahan had a super game. His delievery was good and he was cool on the ball. He made a vital interception when stopping and almost certain cool, one of the turning points of the game. He got a nice point as well and hopefully his hamstring wasn’t giving him trouble when he came off.

Midfield were immense for most of the game but I’m still not convinced by Jim Donovan, maybe being a bit harsh but at times his decsion making seems far too slow for a midfielder. There isn’t much you can say aobut Galvin. The man is rock at midfield and some of the ball he caught yesterday was out of this world. He takes a lot of punishment too as teams try to counter act his height. Tipp seemed to under estimate our midfield ability as they were all at sea for the first 25 minutes, they couldn’t get near a ball yet kept raining kick outs down on top of Galvin. Mulryan did a much better job when he went in there but the damage was done at that stage. Joyce Power played as a 3rd midfielder for most of the game and did well enough, faded in and out of the game a bit kicked two brilliant points, the 2nd being the most important score of the day. I had registered doubts about his ability before the game, and while I still think he lacks football, he had a job to do yesterday and he did it well.

It was a typical performance from our forwards, great scores mixed with some terrible misses. Ian Ryan never really got into the game but I had heard rumours before the game that he was sick (as was Seanie Buckley) so maybe he was feeling the effects of that. He got lucky with the goal but it’s about itme we got a bit of luck in the championship. Seanie Buckley wasn’t near 100% so I won’t be too harsh on him as he tried hard but didn’t seem to be sharp enough on the day.

Ger Collins showed plenty of invention in the corner and made one brilliant turn for a point in the first half. He was a bit isolated in the 2nd half and didn’t get on the ball as much but this was more due to our half forward line dropping so deep and leaving him without any support to lay the ball off to. Stokes did well at the edge of the square but he still seems a bit off full fitness. He need his support players to be close to him and he broke a lot of ball in the first half. A bit more fitness and he could be very dangerous there as the year progresses.

We need to real to kill off teams though, look at last year we had Cork beaten by 3 points and threw it away, we let Meath in for 3 goals after hammering them for the whole game. We were 3 points up on Kildare at half time until they copped our game plan and ended up beating us easily. You can’t afford the big teams in the championship that kind of chance. We need to get a ruthless streak into our game, at least yesterday we hung on and didn’t capitulate in as we amy have done in the past. Tipp never got level with us yesterday and that was a good sign.

On the whole a win is a win, a good performance against Clare and I will be happy enough that we could go into a Munster final and give it a right rattle.

Ratings (feel free to disagree as I can be very pigheaded about certain players  )

Kiely - 7 did what needed to be done but for me doesn’t inspire confidence

Gallagher - 8 - solid game and won his battle
McCarthy - 7 - same as above but a bit disappointed in him for diving
Riordan - 7 - did what had to be done and made a vital interception in the last 10 minutes on the half way line, if he missedthat we were in serious trouble.

Browne - 7 He’s not a forward, his running with the ball was good but I would rather it be an out and out forward getting the ball in that position, did well back at wing back
Lavin - 5 A game he would rather forget.
Ranahan - 8 Used the ball well and cool under pressure

Galvin - 8 Usual stuff
Donovan - 7

Buckley - 6 Never got into the game
Ryan - 6 as above
Lucey - 7.5 Did well and got a vital score

Collins - 8 Got great scores in the first half struggled to get into it in the 2nd half but it wasn’t his fault
Stokes - 7 Did his job well on the edge of the square
Joyce-Power - 8 Did good work around the pitch and got two good scores

 :guns:

Say Limerick are to beat Clare comfortably next week what price would they be against either Cork or Kerry in a Munster final?

I guessing v Cork 3/1
v Kerry 4/1

They could be even bigger possibly.

Any truth in the rumour limerick are trying to get it moved to Kilarney?

Get what moved? We have qualified for nothing yet.

The Clare V Limerick match

Why would they do that?

Clare won’t even show up for it so it doesn’t matter where it’s “played”. :pint:

AFAIK constuction work in Cusack Park is still ongoing and may not be ready for Sunday week, the match would then be moved to Quilty or Cooraaclare but Limerick would object if this is the case and seek a neutral venue, most likely Killarney…

I wouldn’t mind a trip across on the ferry to the wild wild west
