Give over, thatās like comparing the gladiators of ancient Rome to the WWE.
Probably the gutsiest Limerick display I have ever seen.
Gave it their all, ran themselves into the ground, fought like warriors and well, fuck it, Iām immensely proud of that squad.
Absolutely gutted though. Will take a few days to get over this one. Chances like that to get to an AI final donāt come around too often - and that is the devastating thing about it. There was nothing between the sides and lady luck deserted us in a few scrambles around the Kilkenny square, if one of them went in weād probably have gone on to win it. Alas, it was not to be. Kilkenny are not the team they were but are still an exceptional side - if it was any other team we met yesterday our sheer force of will and bloody mindedness would have prevailed. Congrats to them and good luck in the final. I know Iāll be gutted/jealous in 4 weeks time whoever goes on to win it.
Could go through all 30 players (and subs) and laud all of them but special mention to Dec Hannon and Seamus. After what happened him against Clare last year it showed the character of Hannon to come back and produce a display like that. Brilliant performance. Hickey did his cruciate and came back like a man possessed - gym sessions at 6am etc to get himself in prime condition. A top player and a gent off the pitch too. They are not worth a tinkers curse in the greater scheme of things but heāll surely bag an All-Star now. Well deserved too. Bar that mistake for the second Cork goal in the Munster final he has been flawless all year and roasted a number of the best forwards in the country this summer.
Iād be optimistic enough that weāll be competitive for the next few years. Weāre lacking in a couple of positions and cover in others but weāve got better every year since 2011 and there is loads more to come hopefully. Still lacking a real top class, reliable inside forward but I still think Kevin Downes can turn into that player. Throw in a couple of the very promising minor lads from last year and this and weāre in pretty good nick overall. We are not far away and need to drive it on again next year. Nothing to be ashamed about after yesterday. Died with their boots on.
The age profile of the team is pretty good and there will be better days ahead for Limerick hurling - starting next Sunday with the minor lads please God. Train tickets booked and ready for another trip up. We go again - as those Liverpool cunts say!!
See all you fuckers up in Ballycastle or Loughiel for the first game of the league next February!
So what I got from the game yesterday was we were just about as good as kk but not quite good enough to drive it on and beat the cunts. As gutting as yesterday was, the team emerged with huge credit especially given the first half of the year. No question but the management stay on, we now have to leave no stone unturned in search of improvement for next year. I hope we change things up in the league and create some competition for places.
Full back line, we have the best full back in Ireland. Condon didnāt have his best year but will stay put. Hickey was incredible, the best defender in Ireland, but Iād like to have a look at him at 6 in the league. We know what he and Wayne can deliver in the positions they played this year, Give Hickey time at 6 with Wayne on the wing and see how it goes. I think we need to invest some time in Dempsey particularly in the corner. Walsh and Carmody too.
Half back, Gavin was back to somewhere near his best this game. Heāll surely stay in place. Wayne stays, either at 5 or 6. We know what these guys bring though and Tom Ryan needs time here. Maybe King, Morrissey. Quaid? Paudie under pressure.
Midfield. Super this year but we canāt expect them to keep playing 70mins and we need options here. Paudie and Ryan especially need some time here, maybe King and Allis too.
Half forward, thank god Hannon is back. Breen was good. Still fades out, good enough to stay and play 45 mins anyway but we know we need a sub for him. Dodge had a great first half yesterday, I think the swipe he got a yellow for was a sign he was out of puff (?), faded out v Cork too. Owes us nothing, but still has something to give. Staying and playing 50 mins or impact sub role, coming on for 20 mins for Breen? Itās good enough for shefflin. After that I think we should move downes out half forward. He needs to be built up a bit again, he did best at half forward this year, heās a ball winner and if weāre to start scoring goals heāll be instrumental. Heād be best at 11 really but itād take a lot to move Hannon from there now. Iād still try Downes at 11 a few games and wing a few games. Allis and Reidy need time here again too.
Inside line Mulcahy and Dowling should both have all star nominations, both deliveredon their potential this year. Tobin next in line for the corner if Downes shifts out but itād be nice if we had another option stepping up here. Kevin OāBrien impressed for the 21s and is worth time here. Cian Lynch maybe, could still be too soon but players have come through younger.
Would be something if we could discover another gem somewhere like Harnedy or Eddie Brennan that didnāt come through underage teams. Donāt think itās out there thoughā¦ Another year for the management to improve themselves too. Goal scoring is clearly a problem for us, I donāt know if they really have the sophistication to get another 5% improvement in terms of playing style and patterns. They should add to the backroom team if they can get someone right. Chances of Kinnerk? 2016 and we can expect to see both Lynches starting, and D Dempsey, ALTC, English, Morrissey and a few more on the panel and pushing for places, but hopefully we can deepen the pool a bit next year and get on to the final.
Still sickened, but a lot happier than I was this time last year. We did everything we could and you couldnāt fault them really. A couple of breaks went against us and in the end that was the only difference. A mis-hit ball in the square that Larkin managed to get touch on. Those are the margins.
The really heavy rain came in our period of ascendancy and as a result we werenāt able to tack on enough points while we had control.
We went for goals too early as well.
Brief ratings for what they are worth:
Quaid. No chance for either goal. I thought his puck outs were poor and constantly dropping short of the half forward line. I know conditions were horrendous at times but the KK keeper seemed to cope better. Some fault to the half fowards who stayed a lot deeper for puck outs than they should have in conditions. 6
Condon. Did fine overall. A bit sloppy right at the end when we were chasing the goals. 7
McCarthy. Best fullback in the country. 9
Hickey. Absolutely superb. He caught a ball at one stage that was between him and Reid and I donāt know how he came away with it. He is superb in the corner, but would love to see him at centre back. He could be the dominating centre back we havenāt had since Carey. 10
OāBrien. Not up to scratch again. Not sure if his form has just dipped a bit or if he isnāt at this level. 5
Wayne. Did well. Doesnāt dominate, but holds the middle well. Definitely worth a place in the half back line, but we should look for other options in the centre. 8
Gavin. His best game in a while, good to see him responding to criticism. 8
Ryan & Browne. Fought to the very end, an unbelievable work rate. The best thing to come out of this year is we have solved our vulnerabilities at midfield. 8
Breen. Has had a good year overall, but very poor on Sunday. Well beaten by his man. He worked hard and scored one lovely point, but we needed him to be driving at the KK backline to open gaps. 6
Hannon. Centre Forward seems to be the place for him. Still not winning a whole pile of his own ball, but he is some man to take a score. 9
Dodge. Fought hard, and led from the front. Lucky not to be sent off near the end. He is the kind of fella who should still have another year in him. 8
Downes. Never got going, a very disappointing season for him overall. 5
Dowling. Superb. A real class act, capable of trying anything and ice cool. Missed a few difficult frees at the end, when maybe he should have let someone else drop them in. 9
Mulcahy. Has one of the best touches Iāve ever seen. Even when he is poking it along the ground he seems to remain in control. Has had a brilliant year. 8
Tobin. Did well when he came on, in conditions that suited no one but particularly light lads. 7
Ryan. Worked hard but not a half forward. 6
Teege. Would be very happy for Teege to stay on next year. Give him the full year to find his best 15. Being very critical you could say that Downes & OāBrien shouldnāt have started (and should have been subbed sooner). But in his position Iād have gone with the same 15. It was worth the risk that Downes in particular would fire. Had them perfectly primed for it and couldnāt do much more. 8
Ref: He let everything go and it was a fantastic physical battle as a result. A different ref would have made it a completely different game, which is very frustrating, no consistency. 9
While being in 1b hasnāt really affected us that badly over the last two years we badly need to get into 1a next year. You only really learn your weaknesses when you are up against the best, and its pointless testing lads against the lower tier teams. Iād like to see a few of the minors given a chance next year.
We need another corner forward, another half forward and a half back. We also need cover for elsewhere.
It is entirely understandable that limerick people are proud of their team. they were absolutely heroic from start to finish. once the pain of loss decreases a bit that game will be well worth watching for limerick fans but there is a flip side to that.
you can be very very proud of their efforts but at the same time clear minded as well. the simple fact of the matter is that limerick left this one after them. That has got to be the message that comes out of the game.
now i know how touchy some of you fuckers are and i am not trying to run anyone down but limerick should not have lost that game. there was more than enough time to generate the scores needed. after all it was only two points to draw it in 15 minutes.
as regards luck limerick had at least three seriously good goal chances.
david breen failing to blow ball man and the lot over the line in the first half was criminal.
seanie tobin trying to flick the ball into the net when herity screwed up for the umpteenth time as well rather than forcing it over before breen put it wide but the chance was more or less gone when tobin missed it
tobin again in the square in possession managing to put it over rather than burying the goal.
thats not really bad luck it`s more not taking the chances presented to you.
once again limerick were excellent but my guess is that at least four or five of that team will have to change before limerick get over the line if you are cold eyed about it.
thats not to say that the limerick players are poor. its just that if the team doesn`t change the whole thing will stagnate.
cosgrave or english a corner back spot for the first three league games and barring total disaster leave them in for the 70.
dan morrissey should be given a wing back or centre back position for the five matchs and up front i think david Reidy should start the first three games at midfield without coming off regardless.
cian lynch should be playing corner forward for the 5 matchs as well.
it is also critical that shane dowling continues his progress. he had a great year but he should be out wing forward. he is the only person that can determine whether that happens byt the condition he returns to training in january or whenever. it is clearly something he struggles with but if he can even get back there the way he is now without having gained back any of the weight he began last year with then that will be an achievement.
the league next year needs to be entirely an excercise in developing players. if promotion comes out of that well and good. if it does not big deal.
so in an ideal world this time next year limerick would look like
quaid
cosgrave mccarthy hickey
morrissey wayne mac o`mahony
browne ryan
dowling hannon reidy
mulcahy downes (last chance saloon here) cian lynch

Agree with a good bit of that and I was getting at something similar above re developing the team. Why move Dowling from full forward? Donāt agree that Downes is in last chance saloon, heās young, also think he would do better at half forward. Also I donāt think either former minors you mentioned are ready yet or will replace Condon or even the next few in line for corner back, Walsh is still a good corner back too. Iād like the team next year to look something like:
Quaid
Dempsey (Walsh, King, Carmody as options/cover)
Richie
Condon
Wayne
Hickey
Gavin (wing cover: T Ryan, Morrissey, Paudie)
Browne (impact sub: Paudie)
J Ryan (i.sub: T Ryan)
Breen (i.sub: Dodge)
Downes/Hannon
Hannon/Downes (cover/sub: Reidy/Allis)
Mulcahy
Dowling
OāBrien/C Lynch/Tobin/Fitzgibbon
Thatās arguably a stronger team than this year with at least four subs up to the level of coming in from 50 mins on and making an impact.
Listening to Seamus Hickey here and his man of the match interviewā¦ it would move a stone to tearsā¦ Iām in bits, I knew I shouldnāt have watched any of this. Fuck the world!
There aint too many munters left about who you havenāt mounted at some stage.

I think a spine of McCarthy-Hickey-Jimbob/Browne-Hannon -Dowling would be fantastic next year. Weāve got to find a position for Downes, keep him there and work on/with him. He has the talent, thatās not in question. Reidy/T Ryan/Lynch should all be told there is a Half Forward slot their for the taking and to prove themselves over the league/training and let them kill each other taking it. Wayne to 5. I think Dodge will only be a bit part player next year but what an option to come off the bench, an absolute warrior and he will easily give you 20 mins. The momentum is there, can we act on it tho? Will the cunting CB come out and do the right thing? probably notā¦
Well done to the lads, outstanding performance.
Time for the Politically Motivated Understudy to step aside. He has done reasonably well despite hiding behind the failings of the Expensive Corkman earlier in the year but his political motivation shone through when he appointed Clarke who, like PUM, had zero inter-county experience coming into this set up. āLearning it as you go alongā doesnāt cut it at this level.
The only man for the job is now Anthony Daly with a team of Limerick management personnel. He has proven what he can do and can hit the ground running. PJ and Gerrys money will surely stretch that far.
Listened to Thugby on Monday morning and The Voice of Limerick GAA came out, as expected, in favour of PUM. The failed salesman was on as well with his faux bullshit as if he gave a shit about anything. Didnāt hear Farmer Ollie but Iām sure he was on to the Voice to tell him what to say before they went on air. Finally, does Joe have every question scripted? How many times do the cunts have to reference Munster Thugby when talking about Limerick GAA. It was as if that cunt Deegan had his hand shoved up Joeās holeā¦oh wait.

Would you ever fuck off. Give credit where its due.
Limerick hurling needs a Limerick man.

can one of the Limerick posters translate this gibberish for those of us who speak English?
Donāt mind that fool Gman. He was hoping beyond hope that Teege would fail and now he is looking like a proper mug.
Should I assume that his acronym PUM is for when he calls him Politically Motivated Understudy? The thick cunt.
Yes
Surely ballylanders are worth a bet at 2ās tomorrow evening?? Hearing murmurings of discontent from the drom/broadford camp!!
that is in question for me. he is extremely powerful and direct but he has a poor touch and finds it very very hard to get shots away for scores.
Really?
His problem at the minute is he takes that bit too much out of it and gives the defender time to get in a block/challenge- I think itās just a confidence thing - The Wexford display really got into his head and carried over to the KK game. Disagree about touch also, in seasons past his touch and ability to control high or low ball has been sublimeā¦ Like I said, he needs to be given a set role and worked on.
Youād be forgiven for describing him as above on recent performances. However having watched him underage his touch, scoring and movement was as good as the likes of Hannon and Dowling.
I sometimes wonder if the weights training these young forwards undergo when they reach intercounty level can sometimes have a negative effect on their agility and balance on the ball.
