Forwards are lined out a bit odd but nice to see Reidy and Fitzgibbon getting more game time. Only one of them good enough in my opinion though
Was at the Freshers AI hurling final tonight in Mallow. UL won by 6 AET, decent game.

Of the Limerick contingent Sean Finn was the standout performer. He was brilliant at corner back all through. He was playing up at the other end of the field for Bruff in the club championship last year but he didn’t put a foot wrong tonight. Na Piarsaigh’s Michael Casey was in the opposite corner and was solid despite being on a good lad for UCC. Tom Morrissey was very, very quiet but he sparked into life in extra time, setting up a couple of points from midfield.

Best player on view (after Finn) was Alan Murphy (Glenmore, Kilkenny) for UL while their centre back (Heffernan lad from Nenagh) was also impressive.

UCC were 8 points down early in the second half but backed by a stiff breeze then rattled off 1-05 in about 8 minutes to draw level but they could never get their noses in front. UL much superior in extra time.

Didn’t get out of the group in the Fitzgibbon and now this. Commiserations to colleges hurling diehards @caoimhaoin and @downyourthroats - if there is any justice these lads will have their day in the sun in “The 'Dyke” in 2018.
Was the UL centre back not Bergin from Laois, the captain?

As per the programme number 6 was Barry Heffernan from Nenagh Eire Og. Yellow helmet, mopped up a world of ball.

Leigh Bergin (Shanahoe) was one of the UL midfielders and was decent throughout.

Ah midfield he was so, thought he was hurling centre back. He’d actually wear a yellow helmet as well iirc. Did the other Bergin fella on the line get a run out?

Don’t know to be honest. A rake of subs from both sides introduced towards the end of normal time/extra time.

Alan Kelly was the ref. Number of very dubious decisions, even if none had a material impact on the outcome of the match. There’ll be mayhem if he gets any big senior championship matches this summer IMO.

UCC were down Dylan Dawson and Kevin Daly. Two huge losses. Should have pushed on when level with 10 minutes to go. Patrick Curran missed a crucial free near the end of normal time. Barry Heffernan very good for UL. Gough and Cashman had great second halves for UCC…

What do they make of Dylan Dawson down in UCC @downyourthroats?

We’ll do well to keep it pucked out to yee

Very good hurler.

Baffling how he was overlooked for the Limerick minors last year.

How did young Flanagan go for UCC??
Be surprised if forwards line out like that. If they do, Wexford by 3.
Agree on the first part, we’ll win.

Which one?
We’ll do well to keep it pucked out to yee
Ah ye didn’t do too bad a job of it last year in fairness!

Who played well for Cork? Kieran Histon also not playing for UCC, only interested in football evidently, would have been an improvement on a few of the backs UCC had.

On paper its not surprising UL won.

The half back line dominated the second half and Curran and Kevin Kenny were the pick of the forwards. Walsh from Clare midfield was good too. A game of two halves really. Very strong wind.

Indeed it was. He had an unreal year for his club at corner forward in the Premier Intermediate Cship aswell. At one stage he was top scorer in the county of all the grades, and he may have finished up as top scorer too. A good yoke.

Reidy is the only one that may prove good enough.

The other fella is a lovely skillful hurler but as far as Senior Inter County goes…

Didn’t fit in politically. Sad but true.

Reidy is improving brilliantly and is likely to make the grade.

The Adare man is an average club hurler and why there is an insistence on picking him for various county teams is something I will never understand.

There seems to be a trend with Limerick corner forwards who play very well with College yet don’t seem to get much of a chance with the county. Willie “Muffins” Griffin and Jack Ahern would be two in recent times that spring to mind.
