Fuck sake

Footballers three points up. Peter Nash scored an absolute stunning goal.

Limerick hurlers urgently need to address the defensive issues. To concede 3 goals against a team like Wexford is very troubling.

TJ, sort it out!

KK & Clare in a relegation Final?

Stupid comment, Fitzgibbon had a very good game today and has done himself no harm come championship.

Iā€™m not sure how inbreds from your neck of the woods define substance? Adare have appeared in 8 finals since winning their 1st in 2001 so being good on the eye must mean something. I suppose you reckon Mark Foley had little substance either.

Gutsy win down there.

Ah lovely

Just back from Innovate Wexford Park.

Brilliant win for the hurlers. Real grit and doggedness in this current group of players. Through sheer force of will they dug out a win on a day when Wexford looked the slicker outfit.

Full back line was all at sea early on. Never seen Richie as sluggish, Guiney caused him a lot of problems. Stephen Walsh had a bit of a torrid time too. John Fitzgibbon was lively at centre forward, took his goal exceptionally well to make it 1-04 to 1-02. Conceded another couple of poor goals and despite playing with a strong breeze trailed by 8. Looked in serious bother but responded immediately with three points on the trot before a long range Shane Dowling free went all the way to the net.

Three points down at the break was decent going all things considered but facing into the wind it looked ominous. The home side were drilling the ball low and diagonally into the wings and corners and getting a lot of success in doing so. Very good support play and off the ball running while we were just lumping it forward.

Second half the backs thundered into it. Walsh, Richie and Hickey were magnificent, got through a Trojan amount of hooks, blocks and clearances. Drove the team on. Even then Wexford still looked the better side but the goals kept us in it. Dec Hannon took his well, still finding his fitness but a few moments of class.

It was level with about ten mins to go before Wexford looked set to kick for home as they fired over three or four in a row. Lee Chin was man of the match, he was immense in the halfback line all through. Somehow we stayed in it through sheer stubbornness before great perseverance from Browney lead to ball being worked out for a goal chance which the 'keeper saved before David Breen buried the rebound. A draw would have been no use to us though and as the PA announced at least one minute added time Fitzgibbon picked out Seanie Oā€™Brien with a sweet pass who fired over a dramatic late winner. Unreal, unbelievable some might say. Robbery. Wexford had one last chance but after winning the puck out caught the ball three times.

Positives -
The result.
The spirit in the squad.
Waterford (like everyone else) will find it tough to win in Wexford park.
Seanie Tobin was very sharp when introduced, made a good impact.
Fitzgibbon didnā€™t look out of his depth, not sure if heā€™ll make the championship match day squad but he did well today. 1-02 from play.

Negatives -
A flakey performance.
Wayne Mac would break your heart at times. Wins the ball but gets hooked and blocked so often. Misplaced hand passes again too. Wexford got about 1-05 directly from his mistakes. In fairness he always delivers during the championship.
Still no closer to a settled half backline. Personally Iā€™d stick Dodge to centre back. Good in the air, good positional sense and excellent distributor. Major dilemma about where to play Paudie and Gavin. Really need to strengthen the half backline. Weā€™ve a forward line that will trouble most teams.
Second game in a row where Dowling wasnā€™t really involved in open play.

Football was sickening. Probably condemned to division four now as a result.

On a completely unrelated note the Wexford accent on a good looking bird is strangely phenomenal.

I said something similar weeks ago. He coughs up too many scores. I agree he is not as prone to mistakes come Championship but he still coughs up a point or two from mistakes in most big games. Somebody is going to get squeezed out somewhere and if Wayne continues to play this way it will be him in my opinion.

Hereā€™s one for youā€¦what about Paudie Oā€™Brien for a go at no.6? Decent pace for that position, great hurling brain, decent in the air, great distributor. It might be worth a go. I like Wayne but I think big teams target him when he is in possession to put him under pressure as he tends to over carry into trouble or give loose passes

Any report on the football? Who did the scoring?

Wayne Mac is a liability at this stage.

A few big names are going to be left out when the championship team is named. Thatā€™s the kind of competition for places weā€™ve been lacking in recent years. The injuries/club commitments could still cost us promotion if Waterford win their last two matches but it had also given lads like Dan Morrissey, Cian Lynch, David Reidy and John Fitzgibbon chances which they otherwise might not have got.

As far as Iā€™m concerned the three Kilmallock boys are all automatic starters. Mulcahy in the corner is set in stone. Personally Iā€™d have Paudie at wing back. Just a class hurler, always liable to chip in with scores too.

Gavin has been brilliant at centre forward for club and county in recent months. I donā€™t have a clue whether itā€™s better to have him at wing back or number 11.

Decisions, decisionsā€¦

Iā€™ve great time for Wayne Mac, the good outweighs the bad but today wasnā€™t his finest display. Would still expect him to deliver in Ibrox v Clare. He always does.

No report on the Football @dodgy-keeper ? You surely stayed on for it?
