First half - very good. Backs done good particularly O Laughlin. Cork did hit a lot of wides but there was good pressure.
Midfield worked hard.
Hayes done well in the half forward line as did the centre forward who worked really hard.
Murphy in the corner was exceptional almost scored a wonder goal reminiscent of shaughs against tipp all those years ago when he bounced the ball of the ground. Just whistled wide. Prob would have ended the match.
Flanagan rose above his man to catch a line ball and stuck a great goal. Caught 3 puck outs but cork full back did win a good few duels tbf.
Casey was quiet enough.
Second half: Not good. Completely out classed particularly are backs. Brynes and Grimes were destroyed by Kingston.
Midfield was very poor and out worked. Both were subbed off.
Flanagan looked slightly uninterested didnât seem to work too hard. Rest of the forwards didnât get much ball. Murphy played really well and casey did a couple of nice points.
Subs: âThe Askeaton man willyâ done well. Lovely point and a few nice touches. Missed one handy point as did Boylan who looked out of his depth tbh.
Cork were really strong all over being honest. They scored from all angles in the second half. Decent crowd of over 3000.
So do we have any chance if we face them again? Are we 10 points worse than them? Obviously weâll need to up the performance but it sounded like we were the better team in the first half.
Obviously have to overcome Waterford first, which I wouldnât put money on after todayâs results.

Iâm too tired to post a full reply but Weâre definitely not 10 points a worse team than them. Our midfield of O Connor and Hayes were outplayed in second half. Our half forward line which had held its own in first half didnât get a sniff after half time. Subsequently our backs were under total bombardment for the entire second 30 mins. I donât know why Colum Carroll was left on Kingston for so long. They waited too long to make a change there. First half balls into Murphy in the corner were low and generally decent. Second half it was back to âhit and hopeâ 50/50 balls, typical Limerick stuff. Flanagan needed to be brought out to the 40 and kept there because nothing was going into him. Another failure on Leo & Dalyâs part.
We will improve and can still make a Munster Final but the players need to cop the fuck on, they showed no heart or bottle at all in the second half.
Best for us were number 2 OâGrady at corner back (a gem of a player, his direct opponent was subbed) and the aforementioned Barry Murphy at 13 who has all the skill in the world. Flanagan did very well for the first 20 minutes but went out of it after that as the supply of ball dried up. Kyle Hayes at 10 was useful too and Paddy O Loughlin and Conor Byrnes were ok even if they both did do some silly things in the second half.
Iâm not too sure Cork hit everything over the bar in the second half while they had a lot of wides in the first. We looked totally outclassed in the second in most departments. Limerick need to up it big time and somehow stop kingston to have any chance against them again. Also having Brian Ryan back might make a difference and maybe start Willie O Meara who looked gamey when he came on. Gary Birtles Lovechild is right number looked really solid and the other corner back held his own too. Grimes was awful.
Very disappointing performance once Cork got to grips with the game. All 3 half-back and both midfielders were in serious bother throughout. I canât agree with @Gary Birtles Lovechild at all - Conor Byrnes was cleaned and didnât look comfortable at any stage, likewise Grimes and Thomas Hayes. Paddy OâLoughlin takes the wrong option time and again and needs to get his head up and actually look where heâs trying to deliver ball to.
On a positive note, the full back line were very good, particularly McSweeney and OâGrady. Barry Murphy was on fire in the first half and, had he taken his goal chance, Limerick may well have been out of sight. Theyâve a month to put it right and it might be the fong in the hole that a few of them needed. They also need Peter Casey closer to goal and not gowling around the middle of the field hoping for loose ball. Stick him back in the full-forward line where heâll occupy defenders.
Cork are better at this level that Iâve seen them in a good few years and last nightâs win will give them confidence. Kingston looks a fine young hurler.
We were totally over-run in midfield and in our half back line in the second half. Just wave after wave of attacks. Thought the lads in the full backline did well enough overall considering any time they cleared the ball it was coming back twice as fast.
Played the ball intelligently into the full forward line in the first half but what little went in during the second was hit and hope stuff. Having Casey out around midfield was a big mistake, heâs not that type of grafter you need there. Keep him in near the goals.
A very disappointing result. 7 points up close to half time and to lose by ten eventually. A lot of work went into this team over the last few months (even years ) so hopefully theyâll have a good cut off Waterford in four weeks time.
Better team clearly won but I thought the ref was very poor to us in the second half. One incident summed it up. Group of players in a scrum for the ball in front of the Limerick bench, cork lad pulls recklessly to the consternation of the Limerick management and supporters. Ref leaves play go on, breaks to a cork player who was clearly fouled and the free in was correctly awarded. At this stage the Linesman calls the ref over to bring the previous incident to his attention and only then does he go in to book the cork lad for the original wild pull. Free duly popped over the bar for a point to the home side.
