Rick Parry has a lot to answer for by recommending these lads to buy the club. Don’t like the sound of this.
The parent company of Liverpool FC, owned by Tom Hicks and George Gillett, lost 42.6m in the year to August 2008.
The loss was mainly due to the 36m of interest payments that Kop Football Holdings had to make to service the debt taken on to buy the club.
Its auditors warned that the need to refinance loans by 24 July cast “significant doubt” on the future of the group as a going concern.
But they added the club’s owners were confident they would secure the funds.
The US owners bought Liverpool in February 2007, promising to build a new stadium.
In their accounts, they say they are “committed to building a new stadium and actively seeking funding to complete the project”.
But they admit that “the opening of the new stadium will be delayed until 2012”.
The parent company’s loss came despite the 10.2m pre-tax profit reported by the football club in the same period.
The profit was helped by increased television revenues and the sale of players such as Peter Crouch, John Arne Riise and Scott Carson.
The results for the parent company showed net debt on 31 July 2008 of 300m.
will they end up selling it?
the three big english teams seem to be doing terribly financially,
[quote=“north county corncrake”]will they end up selling it?

Hopefully but at the moment Gillett will sell but Hicks won’t. Plus Gillett won’t sell his share to Hicks. So a potental buyer has to go into partnership with Hicks. Hopefully this may force their hand.
I said at the time that a takeover was mooted that it should only be done if financial stability was guaranteed and we wouldn’t end up doing a Leeds. This is clearly not the case.
Shambolic stuff here, and its been obviously the case from way off.
Didnt the City owners want to buy Liverpool initially or was that Thaksin?

Thaksin.
Imagine, if you’d only gone for that deal, you could be buying Lucal Neil now and have Craig Bellamy…
Hicks and Gillett did provide the bunse to buy Nando so I guess we will be forever grateful for that.
Yea but farmer think of the players you’ve missed out on since, Dani Alves for one.
It’s easy to tell that Famer left the auditing game before the rough stuff started on 15 September 2008, that wording is just the auditors covering their asses, wouldn’t read too much into it. That type of opinion is nothing unusual these days.
dossena has handed in a transfer request…Liverpool will do well to recoup what they paid for him
Crazy money - literally crazy
Liverpool look to have won the race to sign England defender Glen Johnson after agreeing a fee in the region of 17m with Portsmouth.
Reds’ boss Rafael Benitez is confident he has beaten off interest from Chelsea in the 24-year-old and expects to make him his first summer signing.
Manchester City had also registered an interest in Johnson, but it is believed Anfield is his preferred destination.
Benitez is now likely to sell Andrea Dossena to help fund the deal.
Johnson, who joined Portsmouth from Chelsea in a 4m deal two years ago, emerged as Benitez’s prime target after having an outstanding season at Fratton Park last season.
Benitez is working within financial restrictions in the transfer market this summer, but it is understood Liverpool are still owed money from the deal that took Peter Crouch to Portsmouth last summer.
606: DEBATE
Good player but not exactly the missing piece in a title winning jigsaw surely?

Spanish defender Alvaro Arbeloa could also be sacrificed to raise cash towards the Johnson deal, with Real Madrid being linked with an 8m move.
He has cemented a place as England’s first-choice right-back under coach Fabio Capello and played in the two recent World Cup qualifying victories against Kazakhstan and Andorra.
Johnson signed a new four-year deal at Portsmouth in January, but club officials accepted they could not stand in his way if he was offered the opportunity to move a club playing in the Champions League.
That would be City’s money doing the ratcheting.
Cant believe Pool are about to blow their entire summer budget on a right back…
The Sun is reporting it is around 19m.
Surely that can’t be right? Apparently 7m is still owed from Crouch which would mean that should only be paying 1m maximum for him!
Not sure if I even rate him - didn’t when he was at Chelsea.
Plus he switches price tags on toilet seats.
Johnson for 17m has all the hallmarks of the Bentley 16m signing last year. Great season, England regular etc etc…
Anyone who steals a toilet seat from B&Q needs watching…
He’s had a damn fine season to be fair. Pool wanted to bid 10 for him I think. Then City came in and, well, you know how these things go then…
Here’s the thing - let City have him.
Aye, Dossena seems to be doing the business there for ye.
Dossena is a left back/winger.
Johnson is a right back.
Arbeloa was doing ok but cover was needed.
No way under the sun should they be paying that amount of money for him.
What position does Dossena play in?
Money for Johnson is crazy. He has had a fine season alright but have a feeling that the three goals he set up against the might of Andorra have added a few mill to the price.
He bombed at a big club before too. I wonder in a tactical game if he has the nous to defend properly. His positioning used to be a problem anyway.
