Well they are two pretty fucking decent players…
‘Beach ball’ referee demoted to Championship
Monday, 19 October 2009
Mike Jones, the referee who incorrectly awarded Darren Bent’s goal for Sunderland against Liverpool on Saturday, will not officiate in the Premier League this weekend.
Bent’s shot struck a beach ball thrown from the visiting section at the Stadium of Light and deflected past Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
FIFA’s laws of the game state “the referee should stop, suspend or abandon the match because of outside interference of any kind”, meaning the goal should have been ruled out and the match re-started with a drop ball.
Jones will take charge of the Championship game between Peterborough and Scunthorpe at London Road.
Jones’ mistake has been widely criticised by a number of his former colleagues with Jeff Winter, Dermot Gallagher and Graham Poll all stating their surprise that such a basic error was made in a Premier League game.
Gallagher said: "It was a glaring error and it’s difficult to fathom.
"Even referees in local parks should know that if there is an outside agent on the pitch then you stop the game and restart it with a drop ball.
"When you set out as a referee you learn the laws of the game and everyone should know it.
“For it to happen at this level and in such a high-profile game is unbelievable. Any one of the four officials should have stepped in.”
The possibility if the game being replayed has been rejected by the Premier League.

Which is which?
I’d say toss him a ball and see, but that might not help matters.
She looks kinda like that one from Eastenders.
Sweet Jesus. That belongs to the things that are wrong thread.
As do Liverpool Football Club for that matter
What odds Daglish?
Definitely worth a punt.
Capello may come available at the end of the season. He would be my first choice and would take Daglish until then.

A few things on that:
- No Liverpool fan I know of says ay any stage that it is going to be our year.
- Last season we were still in the running right up until the end and were top at Christmas.
If someone is going to the trouble of doing those things they may as well do it right.

Definitely doesn’t reflect recent seasons anyway. Maybe back in the Houllier days.
It reflects every season in the last 10 bar last season, which has being exposed as a lucky season.
How in the name of Jaysus can a season be described as a ‘lucky’ season?
I lost count of the number of last minute goals Liverpool got last season. It was ridiculous - and they were winning goals too. A number of key refereeing decisions went their way. They played a number of teams when they were at a low ebb.Liverpool’s league position didn’t reflect in any way their true standing in English football. The proof of this statement will be in the eating of the 2009/2010 season pudding.
I’m afraid it doesn’t. You shouldn’t lift stuff just for the sake of it. I feel more sorry for the fella who went to the trouble of making it.
In fairness quite a few of them do.
There was a good t-shirt on sale outside OT in May, “Only fools and scousers” with Rafa and Stevie G as Delboy and Rodney with the tagline - " This time next year we’ll be champions"
Looked funny anyway.
