Liverpool 09/10
Villa is a class act. That is the difference. A strike force of him and Torres would be awesome, and dare I say, unstoppable.

I said before on here that I wouldn’t break the Torres Gerrard partnership unless for Villa. Gerrard, has matured massively in the last few seasons and that was the main reason for him not holding his midfield position. I would be confident that if he was asked to play there he could - and do well.

And anyone who says that a fan advocating buying one of the world’s best strikers is talking shite, is himself talking through his hole.
Buying a player without a thought of where they are going to play is a recipe for disaster imo.

Liverpool don’t need Villa.

Remember over a year ago gerrard was shambolic as captain and centre midfielder for England against Croatia. He truly hadn’t a clue what to do. I think Benitez realises his limitations in the position . Capello certainly has. He could play wide for sure but breaking up his partnership with Torres could be disastrous imo.

Christian Poulsen (29) from Juventus now being linked to Liverpool along with Standard Liege captain Steven Defour (21).

aquilani said no then? his fitness concerns or he doesnt want to go?

No, Aquilani still heavily linked as well.

that sky italia said poulsen was an option if aquilani didnt go- i think he is too injury prone for LFC to go for him

Michael Turner - how good is this guy? 12 million??

Carragher, Skrtel and Agger all injury doubts for opening game.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has hinted that he is interested in signing Hull City defender Michael Turner.

Benitez has a number of injury worries in defence and saw Jamie Carragher limp off in the first half of Saturday’s 2-1 friendly defeat by Atletico Madrid.

Speaking after the match at Anfield, the Spaniard said: “I was talking with Hull manager Phil Brown, but I will not talk about figures.”

He added cryptically: “Maybe I was just talking to Phil about the weather.”

Benitez has been linked with a bid for central defender Turner, as well as Portsmouth’s Sylvain Distin.

He is believed to have offered 6m for Turner, with Hull wanting closer to 12m.

But with Sami Hyypia and Alvaro Arbeloa having left Liverpool this summer, injury problems may force Benitez to increase his bid.

Daniel Agger (back) and Martin Skrtel (hamstring) are both doubtful for their opening Premier League game at Spurs next weekend.

On Liverpool’s injury problems, which also saw Fernando Torres limp off at the end with an ankle injury, Benitez said: "Carragher twisted his ankle, and we decided to take him off as a precaution.

606: DEBATE
A week away from the Premier League, I am really worried about what is going on…

Nav_YNWA
"We will have to wait to see how the injured players improve, but I feel they will be ready for our next game.

"We have two options. One is to bring in someone at the back and the other option is to keep working with the young players we have.

"Some youngsters need the opportunity to impress, we will see how they go.

"Jamie will come in tomorrow for treatment at Melwood, and we will assess the situation then.

"For a twisted ankle you need two or three days to see how the injury settles down. I do not believe he will need a scan.

“Fernando came off with an slight injury on his ankle, but he also came off as a precaution because this was only a friendly.”

Liverpool played most of the match with Spanish youngsters Danny Ayala and Mikel San Jose in central defence against the outstanding Atletico forward Sergio Aguero.

A target for Chelsea, Aguero scored one goal and created a second for Diego Forlan in the first half, with Lucas Leiva replying for late on Liverpool.

Atletico coach Abel Resino dismissed the Chelsea connection, saying: “As far as I know, we have not had any bids for Aguero.”

This looks like it for Liverpool in terms of buying players - some Greek 30 year old defender who used to play for Rangers.

Skysports.com understands Liverpool are closing in on a shock move for former Rangers defender Sotiris Kyrgiakos.

Liverpool are in the market for defensive reinforcements and it is believed they have lined up a move for AEK stopper Kyrgiakos.

The Reds have been linked with the likes of Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross and Hull’s Michael Turner, but Kyrgiakos appears to be a cheaper option for Rafa Benitez.

With reports of Benitez having his transfer budget restricted Liverpool have switched their attentions to Kyrgiakos and they are believed to have agreed a €3million (2.5million) fee with AEK for the 30-year-old.

Kyrgiakos is understood to have said his goodbyes to his AEK team-mates and is now thought to be travelling to England to hold talks with Liverpool officials and undergo a medical.

Whatever happened Degan the swiss lad that joined last summer?

Injured for most of last season. Played a few pre season matches but wasn’t on the bench against Spurs.

He is a right back though.

That Greek lad is utter scutter. Big, lumbering, rash - everything you don’t look for in a defender.

To be fair to the hun cunt he was been quite impressive with Eintracht Frankfurt but he was utter scutter when at the huns. Tries to win absolutely everything in the air, JT style. Not interested in marking or any of the artful side of defending.

Big game for Liverpool tonight. Things need to be changed but I don’t think Rafa will do it. I’d revert to a 4-4-2 and reckon we could go with a flat midfield 4 with Benayoun, Gerrard, Mascherano, Riera or use the same 4 in diamond. Torres and Kuyt up top.

Seriously worried about Liverpool this season.

what season were you not worried about them? they really need to let the shackles go and just play attacking football like they did in the last quarter of the season last year.

Rumours abound that all is not well in the camp - again.

Apparently Rafa had agreed a deal for David Silva and the Yanks pulled the plug. Murmurs on Merseyside that Rafa could walk away.

Don’t know how much truth there is in this.

Think that may be worth a try - the flat midfield.

Until we get Aquilani back I think that is our best line up.

Sounds like a dodgey enough rumour. What kind of cash would have been involved?

Don’t know - just posting the rumour as I heard it.

Rafa has left Liverpool? Or so the rumour goes.

Betting has been stopped on Benitez being the first manager to leave a club this season
