Also nowhere near the same class as Zidane was.
I can only take from that comment that youâve never seen Ribery play âŚas he is a totally different player to Zidane and it is utter stupidity to compare themâŚLike rocko said he was the difference in winning and losing for bayernâŚhe came back from injury last season and totally stopped Bayernâs rotâŚAaron lennon is a headless chicken of the highest orderâŚ
Aaron Lennon is an inferior player to Jermaine Pennant in my opinion. I donât particularly rate either player but Pennant tends to pick out the odd cross or pass, whereas Lennon has pace and not much else besides. I donât think such a signing would bring Liverpool closer to Manchester United at all.
Great players are players who can change games. As you have pointed out Ribery turned Bayern around last season so I was comparing him to the greatest in the last few years - Zidane.
Also in Zidaneâs latter days he was playing on the left for Real. A winger that dictates the game if you like - a la Barnes, a la Ribery.
I suppose the main reason Zidane came to mind is that I have often heard Ribery being compared to him - with the French connection and all.

Ribery changes games. Therefore Ribery is a great player. Therefore Ribery should be compared to other great players. Zidane was a great player. Ribery is not as good as Zidane. Therefore Ribery is overrated.
Glad you understand your logic Farmer. Itâs lost on most of the rest of us.

Words are being put into my mouth a lot on this thread.
The point of the last post was addressing Scumpotâs querying of me comparing Ribery to Zidane.
I said that anytime I have seen Ribery I have not been hugely impressed*

In terms of top players in the world.
Dear Famer,
I regret to inform you that the above statement is in fact false. The comment that you made earlier in this thread was, and I quote directly and in full:
"Is it just me or is Ribery overrated? Granted I havenât seen much of him for Bayern but anytime I have seen him, while he looks decent, I donât think he is up there with the likes of Messi, Ronaldo et al.
Also nowhere near the same class as Zidane was." [Rockoâs italics]
You decided unilaterally that Ribery was overrated because he doesnât bear comparison with Messi and Zidane among others. It was merely pointed out to you that no player in the world at the moment stands up to comparison with Messi and Zidane and perhaps your expectation levels for Ribery were hugely misguided.
You did state that he âlooks decent.â In fact the point you are continually avoiding is that he would be a far better proposition for Liverpool than Aaron Lennon who simply perpetuates the mediocrity that exists in the team (particularly on the flanks) at the moment.
To answer the rhetorical question you posed in your original post on Ribery. Yes it is just you.
Kind regards

Aaron lennon has genuine pace tho and that is what Liverpool require more than anything especially down the flanks. Their side is criminally slow which makes the signings of Riera and Keane and the pursuit of Barry all the more strange. Lennonâs crossing aint great as he struggles to get any real height in his deliveries. But Liverpool dont have too many who would head the ball so his deliveries along the ground would be fine. Lennon is no Ashley Young but I think he is a pretty good player with potential to improve. He has annihilated Evra a couple of times in a few games I watched in the last couple of years. He tore Nicky Shorey a new one in my visit to White Hart Lane earlier on this season. He tends to chip in with the odd goal and his pace would force sides to defend deeper leaving more room for Torres and Gerrard.
Agree with all of this. Lennon is not the answer for Liverpool and I couldnât see him playing ahead of Kuyt/Reira/Babel/Benayoun. No end product whatsoever (baring the goal he scored last night).
Ribery, now thereâs a totally different kettle of fish. Iâd take the hand off Ribery
Stupid tackle from Lucas who has shown absolutely no form against premiership opposition over the past 3/4 games to justify a place on the subs bench.
Taking off your top striker when your team needs to push on and put the game beyond Wigan.
Taking off your best player when the game goes to 1-1 and heâs the only one who can drag your team out of the shit when they really need it.
Giving Robbie Keane 5 minutes to try and make an impact on the game.
Dropping one of your most impressive players this season, the one he tried to sell during the summer. I know thereâs a game against Chelsea at the weekend but you have to beat whatâs ahead of you first.
That game was massive tonight especially with whatâs coming up at the weekend.
Didnât see any of the game but was hearing the goal and substitution updates on Newstalk. Crazy decisions from Benitez. Thatâs just ludicrous to take off Torres and Gerrard, the latter at 1-1.
