Liverpool 2008/09

this is the liverpool thread, not big month for celtic

what a shocking game…they should just go straight to penalties…do us all a favour…

Everton should have this match won. If they had a natural striker they’d have the game sewn up. Is Jo on the bench?

He must be ineligible - they surely would have brought him on ahead of the two kids and the drunk.

everton are like a rugby team …they have to go through about 10 phases of play before they get the ball in the box!!.

He was paraded at half time in his suit.

Liverpool lack an attcking threat without Gerrard - it is as simple as that really. Down to ten men as well - they are hardly going to go all out attack.

Everton having no fit strikers didn’t stop Benitez having a go. There was nothing stopping Liverpool going to 3-4-2 or 4-3-2 rather than the 4-5-0 they’ve gone with for the last while.

The kid does it.

Great goal, he should have complicated it a bit more though.

The drunk squared up to Reina.

Take that murderers

Ah that is bullshit in fairness. Torres has been up there in the last few games. He wouldn’t be the most attacking minded coach and seems more intent not to lose but he is not completely defensive.

Anyway - no big loss getting knocked out. How it will affect confidence after the win against Chelsea is another thing.

Care to elaborate on that Sledge?

I would say that will depend on how long Gerrard is out for. He gives that team pretty much all its drive, confidence etc etc.

As opposed to… who with Chelsea?

When I said ‘last while’, I was referring to this particular game and the portion of the game when they were down to ten men. If they’re not too worried about the cup then why go so defensive and tactical and play for penalties for the last 50 minutes? They could have just played open and off the cuff football.

Anyone have Itv on. They go to an ad break by mistake in extra time and next thing everton are celebrating the goal. If it went to penos Reina would have saved a few of them so its as well Everton nicked it. Definately deserved it over the 120 minutes.

What is your point farmer? In my opinion, Chelsea don’t rely on any one player as much as Liverpool do on Gerrard, and I prefer it that way. Terry, Carvalho and Lampard between them give them the bulk of their backbone, their drive etc.

Fair enough if you disagree, and before you drag up the Alonso red herring, yes he’s a fine passer of the ball and is capable of controlling the rhythm of a match on occasion, but he just isn’t capable of a match-changing impact in games such as tonight’s.

LOL just as well we were watching on Setanta.

I thought ‘last while’ meant the last few games.

I never said that Benitez wasn’t worried about the cup - I said I wasn’t. Benitez is obviously taking it seriously judging from the team he picked playing Gerrard and Torres, at least one of whom looks to have picked up an injury.

They don’t really have the players though do they?
