Liverpool Chelsea second leg

Liverpool team just announced

Reina, Finnan, Riise, Carragher, Agger, Mascherano, Gerrard, Pennant, Zenden, Crouch, Kuyt. Subs - Padelli, Arbeloa, Hyypia, Fowler, Gonzalez, Alonso, Bellamy.

Unbelieavble that Zenden is playing again. Alonso dropped to allow Gerrard into the middle.

Not at all confident about this

I haven’t been impressed with Alonso this season. That said I’m very surprised that Zenden and Pennant are playing.

that team looks very very ordinary. anybody know the odds? i am still in work and cant access paddypower online.

Bit messy piper but here’s the copy and paste from Paddy Power:

much appreciated bandage.

anyone else think 9/4 for chelsea is a good value. i am going to wait until somebldy else agrees before lumping my hard earned cash on it.

Gonna use my Gilesy prediction meter before he comes on to analyse in a minute:

‘You can’t fault the honesty of effort, Bill. But nobody’s got the moral courage to get it down and play. I can’t believe Alonso isn’t playing, I really can’t - he’s the only one capable of getting it down and playing, Bill.’

Dunphy will make some reference to the game needing a Giles or Brady.

Brady will look really angry as normal and say, ‘It’s been poor, Bill.’

I’m fairly confident in my predicitons.

You left out one vital part of the Gilesy prediction meter “They have to out there and do there stuff, if they dont do there stuff they wont win”

I have to say Dunphy called the shoot-out spot on. Not in a position to comment on the match itself because I only watched some of extra time and the penalties. Commentary seemed to suggest that Liverpool deserved it on balance. Is that the case?

Not a Liverpool fan at all and didn’t enjoy the scenes of them celebrating but there was a warm glow in my heart when I saw Terry walking off the pitch at the end.

that was poor stuff. obviously if you are a liverpool fan you couldnt give 2 fucks and rightly so.

as someone who didnt care who went through, i was just hoping for a good game of football. the standard shown tonight was nothing short of abysmal.

i guess tomorrows semi will be better and i pray that milan get through and go on to win it.

to be perfectly honest it will be a sad state of affairs if liverpool win 2 champions league’s in 3 years because they are an extremely limited side.

Agree that if you support Liverpool you’ll be absolutely thrilled and fair play to them.

But I’m agreeing with dancingbaby here. That was an absolutely shocking game of football.

Chelsea playing 4-5-1 and showing no ambition whatsoever to attack. Spend over 200m and your gameplan is to hoof long balls up to an isolated Drogba. Pathetic.

Chelsea got what they deserved as Liverpool tried somewhat to play football. Still though it was 120 minutes of hack and hoof with football only threatening to break out sporadically.

Alos, since when did Dunphy feel sympathy for Mourinho? He’s spent the last few years lambasting him for his arrogance and cockiness and after the game tonight he said he felt terribly sorry for Mourinho. I was delighted for the posturing cheat.

The only reason I wanted Liverpool to go through was because Benitez seems to be a thoroughly decent football man compared to Mourinho.

dont agree with that Bandage - Liverpool hoofed it up to Crouch as much as Chelsea looked for Drogba

To be fair to Dunphy he did say last week he had found some respect for Jose and the way he has handled the boardroom pressure and kept his players a working unit.
Does anybody else feel if Mourniho wasnt under the pressure he is, would he pick more adventurous teams or at least set the players up differently or am I way off?

Great win for liverpool last nite.

as one fellow member said to me last nite the competitive nature of the game was hugely enjoyable, altho it was predictable that certain people would harp on as usual about the long ball, and low and behold they didnt dissapoint.

To be honest, there can be no argument that the game was played in a direct style but i still thoroughly enjoyed watching it as did all of those who watched it with me. great atmosphere and drama with the result in doubt from start to finish.

not every game can be free flowing and ‘beautiful’ as the utd milan 1st leg was, especially with so much at stake. I thought to a man liverpool were immense, particularly mascherano, carragher and kuyt. also i though pennant caused cashley alot of trouble.

anyway no need to be defending liverpool now, there’s a 2nd champions league final in three seasons to look forward to.

no raven, unfortunately i have an exam on the day of the game and the day after. oh well, but thanks for the tip anyway.

your sick

cant afford it, goin to anfield instead

Fantastic response to Jose’ jibes about Liverpool beign a small club

I don’t care what he says, I don’t listen. I guess when you’ve invested 500m it’s a fantastic season to win the League Cup."

who responded to this? Dont listen to Jose anymore after he claimed last year that his side were the better team when they were knocked out of the champions league by barca. He’s a bad loser.

Who said that, flano? Pretty good comeback.

I feel a bit like Johnny Giles here but the thread is about the Liverpool-Chelsea game and given that it was a very poor standard of football then of course posters are going to comment about that. That doesn’t hide from the fact it was tense and exciting right to the end. But I think only supporters of each side who are very blinded by loyalty, or are in fact blind, would claim the standard was anything other than awful.
