the formalities are still to be finalised, of course, but we can expect gakpo to be a red by the time the transfer window officially opens on sunday. the deal could cost liverpool as much as £44m (£37m guaranteed) and will leave manchester united, who had hoped to land the 23-year-old in january, seething
Are Liverpool falling into a trap here lads? Is this guy any good? Decent World Cup granted, but are Liverpool just getting him to stop United from getting him? Ten Hag wanted him in the summer but he plays on the wing and United need an out and out no 9.
I’d very much doubt Jurgen Klopp and Julien Ward would sign a player just to stop Man United from getting him. Could be a similar signing to that of Luis Diaz who gave Liverpool a real boost in January last year. I’m very surprised it’s a winger instead of a midfielder but I’d trust their judgement. They specialise in converting promising wide players into prolific goal scorers at this stage.
