After the unparalleled success that was the Friday Night 80s thread, I am now back with a new edition where bands from Liverpool and Manchester will face off in a knockout competition. The rules are quite simple:
[]Each poster has until Friday 6pm to nominate five songs from bands which hail from each respective city
[]When the nominations close - a series of polls will run in order to determine the best 16 songs from each city
[]When the best 16 songs from each city have been determined, they will then enter into a knockout style tournament with individual ties being decided by the posters of the forum via way of polls
[]Sidney will the be adjudicator of whether the band/song in questions qualifies as a representative of each city
My nominations are as follows: Manchester:
Oasis - Columbia
Happy Mondays - Step On
The Stone Roses - This Is The One
Oasis - Roll With It
James - Tomorrow Liverpool
The Farm - All Together Now
Cast - Alright
Echo & The Bunnymen - The Killing Moon
A Flock of Seagulls - I Ran
Frankie Goes to Holly - Two Tribes
While Liverpool Football Club clearly has far better songs than Manchester United and Manchester City put together, as far as cities go, Manchester has more depth. But it should be a good battle all the same. I’m going to leave Oasis out of this for variety.
Liverpool:
Tomorrow Never Knows - The Beatles
The Cutter - Echo and the Bunnymen
There She Goes - The La’s
Wake Up Boo - The Boo Radleys
Ferry Cross The Mersey - Gerry and the Pacemakers
Manchester:
Pacific State - 808 State
Voodoo Ray - A Guy Called Gerald
How Soon Is Now - The Smiths
One Day Like This - Elbow
He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother - The Hollies
