Looking for a portable P.C. type device?

Got a Lenovo thinkpad 330 8gb ram 2tb hardrive the other day in currys Belfast for 380 pounds for my daughter, can’t go wrong with this one, actually think I originally saw it on the Black Friday deals thread
This was the one

If you’ve to make a choice between capacity and an SSD take the SSD everytime.

Could do a lot worse than a surface laptop

Lads I know this a refurb

But it’s the same price as a surface laptop at half the spec

What am I missing?

I’ll give you that

on the lookout for a laptop. any decent deals out there? Need 1TB storage on it for files and that, wouldnt be using a network so storage would have to be on the laptop. Reasonably large size screen too, 14 inch wont cut it. Not for gaming, but would need a decent bit of memory to run software, preferably 8 or over, would get away with 4. Not wanting to spend a fortune on it, it’ll serve a purpose and no more.

Rough budget? 600?

yeah in around that. Last one I got a few years back was something like that.

prices go up with larger screen real estate

yeah I’d manage 15.6, I have a Toshiba that size at the moment. Would like to increase, but may not be practical either. Have a monitor anyway hooked up which covers having to need bigger screen. May in future even look at another monitor and not using the laptop screen. Would still need laptop and portability of it though as would be away from office too with it. How durable or long lasting are Acer? I found the Toshiba pretty good to be honest, just gone a few years now and stuttering a bit more.

lookit they aren’t lenovo’s but they’ve got a decent reputation and you get a year warranty.
the price for a 17’ is ridiculous with a similar spec and more aimed at gamers.

it would be probably cheaper to get a second monitor. I run mine (lenovo w530) off laptop screen and one connected monitor. Just use the laptop screen as a container for running tasks.

Something like this is decent value.

By looking for 1TB you’re basically walking away from SSD which makes a big performance difference.

I could be wrong but I think you may be overstating your storage needs. Do you have a lot of videos/multimedia?

I split the difference and gave you 512GB SSD. i5 processor. Good HD screen. 8GB Ram. You could do much worse.

The screen on that is poor.

he said he didn’t want 14" screen.

OK. Back to the drawing board.

As above, slightly bigger screen. Slightly more expensive

You could go for this and buy a cheap external HDD

Yup not bad. Similar to the one above. Better processor. Refurbished puts some people off. I wouldn’t be too bothered by it. Something was wrong. They fixed it, they tested it.
