I’m stoked. Cmaaannn!
Didn’t go through this thread just in case of spoilers but only starting watching Mad Men series one in the past while; the Beeb have it on Sunday nights as a catch up to when the air Series 4. Jesus it is class, best thing since the Sops (and I know about the connection). The smoking is unbelieveable. There was a scene where Don and the wife wake up after a night out and they are getting ready for the day; two of them coughing away… very good!
I’ve two episodes to go in season 3 and to be honest it’s as disappointing as season 2 was brilliant. I am fairly bored with the Draper’s marital troubles at this stage but at least they have stopped killing time with Betty trotting around at the pony club. The whole Conrad Hilton storyline has thus far seemed utterly pointless and reminiscent of a celebrity being thrown into an US sitcom for no apparent reason. Any impact he has had on the plot doesn’t justify the time he’s spent on screen. At this point the Kennedy assassination seems to be the only thing propelling the plot forward. The Drapers family woes is old hat and the re-acquisition of Sterling Cooper makes you wonder what was the purpose of the whole buyout in the first place?
It’s not terrible or anything but season 2 was so ridiculously good that my expectations were higher. The one permanently outstanding fixture has been Pete Campbell who is utterly brilliant. He completely outshines Cosgrove, Kinsey, or Crane and only Peggy or Joan are really interesting enough to share the spotlight with him and Don. Hopefully season 4 is a return to more interesting territory.
I thought Season 3 was brilliant throughout WTB. I agree with you on Pete Campbell though, probably the most entertaining character in the show. Hated him at first but he’s probably my favourite character now.
Only two episodes to go on Season 4 now, has been very good but I’ll reserve final judgement until the final espisodes are broadcast.
He’s not a particularly likeable person as he’s very aware of himself but he’s one of the best characters I’ve seen on any hbo show. He’s the best exponent of the whole masculine identity crisis theme, more so than Don who at the end of the day can effortlessly charm anyone.
Fock, ten months to wait for more Mad Men.
Thoroughly enjoyed the finale tonight, getting mixed reviews but I thought it was class.
Just realised it started back on RTE last night. They’re some shower of cunts-never saw it advertised. I presume they had it on around midnight as usual.
Realplayer should have it anyway Pikeman…
Am way behind with this but have the DVDs. Will watch the last episode of series 2 tonight and will probably watch episode 1 of series 3. A quality quality series. Roger Sterling is some character. The colours, the sets, the writing, the suits. Top notch.
I think it has to be Rachel Menken, Brian Tinnion. Betty Draper is too much of a stepford wife type. 1000 up
Take a look at how ‘Betty’ looked at the globes, nuff said.
Confirmed last week that the show will return for two more seasons. The bad news is that it won’t be back until early 2012.
Also been rumored that a few cast regulars won’t be back due to cost cutting. Matthew Weiner has signed a three year contract with Lionsgate so it’ll run for more than two seasons.
Think the last season finished in or around 1966 so would expect it to run through to the end of the 60s.
Great news.
Only started watching this last week. Up to episode 5 season 1.
Does it get better? It’s pretty slow moving.
If you don’t like it half way through the first series then I’d forget it. Its slow moving in general.
It’s not that I don’t like it, but the way people were going on about it I was just expecting a bit more. Plus there are a lot of episodes to get through.
We don’t all need explosions and ridiculous plot twists every five minutes to enjoy a TV show.
Move onto Hawaii five-0 or the like Runt, this is obviously too advanced for you.
The meteor strike at the end of Season 1 is fairly gripping stuff and the guns the aliens have in Season 2 are pretty class. Stick with it.
