Here you go Flano

I watched the most recent episode last night. Christ the show has picked up momentum.
That was the series finale Flano.
Majestic Stuff.
For those of you who have not started watching get on this immediately.
Loved it all. Just from the name of the episode “Shut the Door. Have a Seat” it was pointing to being a beauty.
I haven’t enjoyed an episode of anything bar the FlashForward pilot so much in a long time. [The 30 Rock halloween episode was excellent too.]
It all fit very nicely together in a very clever but not obvious way.
Bringing back Joan was brilliant. How long before Big gay Sal is back?
I like the way Don’s personal life is a mess and his business life is taking off. I wonder how far each road he can go in opposite directions before something big happens. Maybe he attempts suicide in a darker personal moment. Obviously he’s far too good a character to kill off.
Is Peggy double dealing with the Duck?
Pryce became a very likeable character by the end of the episode. His reaction to being fired and when he was firing the others was terrific.
What’s next in the history line?
1964:
The Beatles
Malcolm X/Civil Rights Act
Vietnam War
Christ yeah. They do 13 episdoes per season. Quite literally an odd number.
Most enjoyable episode to date, even a step above the normally high standard.
Just watched the last 2 episodes back to back last night. Holy fuck what a show this is. From Kennedy to the cleaning out of the Office, balls out entertainment again, one that gave Don back some of his mojo and got you rooting for him again after the pathetic figure sitting on the end of the marital bed. Sickening that its over now again for another season, but what entertainment, best show out there bar none at the moment.
RTE Player are now showing all episodes of Season 1 and 2 of Mad Men.
Just finshed the third series today, what can I say? Holy fook, magnificent television. Superb acting all round. The last two episodes in particular were fanstastic. One slight criticism for the final episode was that it got slightly predictable with getting everyone together to start the new agency and having Betty head to Reno with Henry Francis, just felt a bit rushed and that they were trying to set things up for season four. Apart from that though, orgasmic television.
Bit worried that my hero Draper doesn’t seem to be on top of things as much as he used to be, I was disappointed that he gave up on his affair with Ms. Farrell (who was a series piece of gear) so easily and he was almost crying with Olson, man up, the fat bitch will follow.
Series four is a few months away and I can’t fooking wait. Couple of things will be interesting going forward:
- three people now know about the Dick/Don thing
- Pete and Peggy, reckon there might be some fornicating between them again in the next series
- Sterling and Joan - definitely going to be banging again in season four
- Betty and Don are finished so f**k knows who Draper will be banging in season four, wonder what the odds are on Menken making a comeback? She’s been tied up with Sons of Anarchy so that’s why she hasn’t featured since a cameo in season two
- Unfortunately Sal looks like he is gone for good as American Tobacco are the main client of SCDP
Any ideas as to when we’ll have a Region 2 DVD of the third series?
Over rated show.
That is all.
I regretfully disagree, although Tinnion does treat it like a religion.
I’ve only ever watched the occasional episode of this. Similar enough to how I cam across the wire the first time, I was just flicking through the channels and straight away it looked like nothing I’d ever seen before. Unbelievably stylish. Seems clever enough as well but does it have enough about it to really get into it? Seems like it could be either brilliantly subversive or an upmarket Dallas.
Yes - its about as intelligent a programme as has ever been made. Its the kind of thing they should be showing in our secondary schools frankly (along with The Wire).
Kev - are you the sort of guy that would rate 24 or Lost above Mad Men?
Just to pick up on the kids playing with a plastic bag and the sign of the times etc. A lovely touch I spotted from season 2 when don and family went for a picnic. Time came to pack up they just shook their blanket, left their rubbish on the ground and walked off.
No such thing as “don’t litter” campaigns back then obviously.
All three series are littered with things like that, think they work best when they are subtle as they can lose their novelty quite quickly.
I quite like the way real life events are intertwined with the story lines.
The JFK assassination in particular was superbly written. It would have been easy for the assassination to become the dominant storyline and for the entire episode to revolve around the characters’ reactions to the assassination but they resisted this and continued to focus on the show’s characters.
Not at all, just don’t like it. I hate the likes of 24 & Lost, the most ridiculous shows ever. Hate all those Fox/Sky the world is going to end kind of shite. Liked the concept of Prison Break, but it turned out to be shite and over cooked as well.
Rescue Me is probably my favourite show of recent times, although i’m kinda addicted to In Treatment at the moment. GF is into these shows as well, so its very helpful.
I get the fact that they recreated the 60’s very well in Mad Men, but other than that i just don’t think its great.
great show.
don draper is a likeable bollox.
Season 4 Premiering in the States on Sunday night.
