Major Boosts to the Irish Economy

This is a serious blow to the Irish economy. This could have been the catalyst for BOOM 2

We are done for. We have told 80,000 people that we DONT want their money and that they’re not welcome in our country. What hope have we?

The economy is in danger of overheating again, especially in Dublin, so it’s no harm that a bit of action was taken to take a bit of the fizz out of it.

Never fear Fagan, it will be in no danger of overheating as long as we have people like Eamon O Brien and Owen Keegan getting their way and turning away 80,000 people and their wads of cash.

A few GAA replays will easily recoup the €50m.

That’s brilliant. It’s a shame we didn’t have people like that keeping an eye out for us a decade ago.

I think you’re a lil confused Fagan

The Dublin Chamber of Commerce representative on TV3 News at 5.30pm said that Euro 2020 coming to Dublin “will be worth between €50m and €100m at today’s values to the Irish economy.”

Level of precision is immense.

The FAI meaning Failte Ireland and its members?

In US Equities we trust

The times over here carries a completely different slant on this. It’s only the odd game in a tournament spread over Europe it transpires. Hmmm

What did you think it was? It was stated clearly that we were going for the 4-game package and 13 venues would be selected.

As I learn all I need to know about the world I this August chat room, I thought, given the figures quoted, that Delaney had effectively announced he had succeeded in winning the entire tournament. 100 million would seem a little on the high side for 4 football matches.

I think those estimates are conservative and prudent, pal.

Factoring in the price of tickets is irrelevant as are the TV rights. The only actual boost to the economy will be from overseas visitors spend, which, for four soccer games is unlikely to be in that region. Accountants, politicians, and gombeen men looking to headline grab tend to pick whichever figure best suits their argument, rather than a pragmatic one.

Read back over the thread and see how much the 2011 Europa League Final, one single game, brought in. I think we can multiply that by 4 and I think €300m+ is a more realistic economic boost.

The Europe league final surely attracted a large majority of overseas fans though. I would have thought that the European qualifiers would attract a more indigenous attendance. Why was the estimate given at 50~100million if one game previously brought in so much?
I’d be genuinely interested to see your breakdown of the figures.
