Major Boosts to the Irish Economy
The Europe league final surely attracted a large majority of overseas fans though. I would have thought that the European qualifiers would attract a more indigenous attendance. Why was the estimate given at 50~100million if one game previously brought in so much?
I’d be genuinely interested to see your breakdown of the figures.
The Europa League final was a fairly unattractive all Portuguese clash between Braga and Porto. You might need to take this up with the Chief Executive of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce as I’m relying on their figures.

They’re not qualifiers mate. It’s the tournament proper that Mr Delaney has delivered on a plate.

Figures are based on 160,000 people spending 400 to 600 euro each on getting to Dublin, transport, hotel, food and drink. Not wholly unrealistic depending on who is involved.

It’s a small part of it.
I would personally think that the Dublin chamber of commerce figures may have elements do guesswork and bias, so I would be interested in your version.
These bit parts of the tournament are being played across a host of venues/countries according to the times.

Hopefully not Spain so-the Spanish wouldn’t spend Christmas.

The travel aspect may well not feed into the economy if airlines are involved though, no?

Nobody’s disputing that there are 13 different host venues. Not sure why you keep repeating this point.

We’ll hike up the airport charges mate.

@Bartosz Bereszynskiego Should we be thinking about taking someone else onto our payroll to deal with the related surge in internet traffic? Even if only half of the 160,000 visitors join TFK, it will still put a strain on the servers and we can’t expect @carryharry to deal with the moderation queue on his own.

The Web Summit taking place in the RDS this week will be worth €100m to the local economy

Fucking traffic chaos in Ballsbridge this morning. Taxi drivers doing as they please. U-turns, double parked blocking bus lane and normal lane but it was ok because they had their hazard lights on so they could do what they wanted. I had two near misses in the 10 minutes it took me to go the 100 yards from Sherry Fitzgeralds to pass the RDS.

Walk, you lazy bastard.

These are Tech Gurus, the most important people in the world. These are the people who saved the economy and are shaping our future. You should have been out bowing before them instead of trying to squeeze your shitty little Fiat Punto past them.

There are lads in there who plan to have driverless taxis within a decade so the last laugh will be yours

Was this thing on last year or even the last few years too? I recall these nerds arriving into The 51 en masse and going up to the bar one by one and paying for their individual drink with a laser/credit card. And repeating for each drink thereafter rather than using cash or availing of cash back. Paperless paying technical nerds.

Ya this is its fourth year.
The lad who founded it is now a millionaire.

I attended it for first three years. I am amazed how he has mugged people off but people seem to lap it up so fair play to him.

Some of the talks are interesting and you get insights into what is coming in the future but it is really just that - entertainment.

This year it is all about drones/UAVs. Lad who founded Hailo reckons the sky over Dublin will be full of drones in the next five years.

Early bird tickets are around €400 but if you left it until this week to pick one up they were costing up to €1,700.
With over 20,000 attendees, you do the math.

Rio Ferdinand and Paul McGinley are speaking at this
