Managerial Merrygoround Thread

And an anti-football one at that.

“The name of Napoli’s next Coach begins with M,” said President Aurelio De Laurentiis. Is it Roberto Mancini or Roberto Martinez?

Up until now the hot favourite has been current Chelsea Interim Manager Rafa Benitez, especially as he is out of contract in June.

Attending an event in Naples this evening, President De Laurentiis dropped a hint when asked who would replace Walter Mazzarri.

“The name of Napoli’s next Coach begins with M,” he replied.

This would rule out Benitez, unless he was using the Spaniard’s full name, which is Rafael Benitez Maudes.

Other options who fit the clue would be recently fired Manchester City boss Mancini and Wigan Athletic manager Martinez.

Rumours emerged late last night that the real reason for De Laurentiis flying to London was not to see Benitez, but rather to convince Martinez of his plans.

There are also less likely candidates, such as Catania Coach Rolando Maran (who just signed a contract extension) and Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Montella.

Martin O’Neill.

Big Mick to finally get the break that will show the continent his worth, and embarrass the englishers and mbb who do not rate him

Big Mick would be a fabulous appointment for Napoli and would have a similar impact as a manager over there as Diego Maradonna did as a player*. although I couldn’t see Big Mick breaking contract and walking out on Ipswich, he is just too honest a man for that craic

*minus the blow and hookers

Please let McCarthy go to Napoli. Also can we get a documentary crew to follow him? It would be better than The Rod Squad.

Looks like Seedorf for the Milan job, I think this will only end in disaster. I don’t think it’s wise to hire a manager who would have been team-mates with the players a very short time ago.

Ya Kenny Daglish made a complete balls of that in the 80’s.

The fact you go back 30 years reinforces my point.

Big Mick McCarthy had been team mates with several of the Ireland players he managed so successfully.

Has Seedorf any management experience?

No, he is currently playing in Brazil, with Bogofago(sp)

Milan’s Curva Sud fanbase have come out in support of the soon to be axed Coach Massimiliano Allegri.
The tactician is understood to have been told on Wednesday that he will be replaced this summer, with former player Clarence Seedorf set to take his place.
That expected switch has infuriated the club’s most passionate section of supporters who have today released a statement questioning the outfit’s proposed plans.
“We have to have our say on the latest situation that could be detrimental to the future of our beloved and glorious Milan and which, because we love these colours, we can not accept,” it read.
“Let’s start from last year. In July we find ourselves supporting the club’s new project of focusing on youngsters to balance the books, seeing us say goodbye to some of the biggest champions of the last few years and the two best players from recent seasons,” referring to Thiago Silva and ZlatanIbrahimovic.
“We found all of the Rossoneri support against us, but we decided to embrace the forward-thinking line realising that there is a serious project behind it, made up of strong youngsters and a club with solid accounts.
“The championship starts with great difficulty and Allegri’s Milan seems to be in a hole. We, aware that contesting would be detrimental to the environment, take a stand and decide to support Milan in the most difficult moment.
“The choice works – a sort of tacit agreement between the Curva, Coach and the team to row in the same direction is made and, despite a team that in comparison to the Ferrari of the big European clubs is comparable to a 500, we begin to reap the benefits with the explosion of Stephan El Shaarawyand careful management of the players from Coach Allegri, who we recognize as having been the driving force of this project, and that with only one valued addition, Mario Balotelli in January, gave us the satisfaction of going from penultimate to third place.
“Today we find ourselves with a project which has just started (one year in certain sectors is only a small step) which will soon be dismantled because of the choice of the President.
“We understand, but do not share the idea, that who invests may decide to change Coach for personal reasons, but if we are talking about a project then you have to at least start with an affirmed Coach and not with people like Seedorf or others who have no experience and will take over a young side which is a month away from its first official engagement such as the difficult Champions League preliminary round.
“We, at the very least, ask that Milan and its fans are respected, with decisions which are not made in the moment but with the continuation (if not with Allegri who we strongly support, then at least with a real Coach) of a project which a year ago we supported against everything and everyone.”

Owen Coyle is the new Wolves manager. Not quite the Barclays premier league:p

Mr Klopp made a successful transition too. As did Mr Lennon.

Forgot about Lennon, a very recent one. It works for certain personalities.

Yeah though their styles can be very different. Klopp was very pally with his players, Dalglish very distant. But you certainly need to be able to draw a clear line and have the respect of everyone.

Loads of examples in other sports, particularly GAA.
