Managerial Merrygoround Thread

Derby have sacked Paul Jewell according to reports on Setanta.

Ah well, he’ll have more time for his hobbies:

What odds on Roy Keane going back to where he truely excelled himself and taking over at the city ground??
Apparantly Nigel Cloughs in line for the Derby post. Mad

Billy Davies looks to be a shoo-in for Forest. I wonder would Keane like to get into a routine, just work away at Forest for a few years before stepping up to the big time again.

Not surprised. Fooked up West Ham when he was there

Glenn Roeder has been sacked as manager of Championship strugglers Norwich.

A statement on the Canaries website said: “Norwich City today confirmed the contract of manager Glenn Roeder has been terminated with immediate effect.”

Roeder, who resigned as Newcastle boss in May 2007, joined Norwich in October of the same year and led the club from the bottom of the table to safety.

Norwich are currently fourth from bottom and suffered a 1-0 FA Cup exit at the hands of Charlton on Tuesday.

How he ever got a job again after taking down that West Ham side I’ll never know. West Ham board was far too patient that season. Is supposed to be a good coach so will probably pick up an assistant job somewhere. Certainly doesnt have the personality to ever be a success in management.

Jeff Kenna has stepped down as manager of Galway United, with his assistant Ian Foster, taking charge of first team affairs.

Kenna, who helped Galway avoid relegation from the Premier League last season, had previously indicated that he would be in charge of Galway for the forthcoming season.

However, this week, he informed the club that he was no longer is a position to fulfil his commitment to the club and would be resigning as manager.

Foster meanwhile, has been handed a two year contract at Terryland Park and has already made his first signing in bringing Derek O’Brien back to the club from St Patrick’s Athletic.

‘We made enormous progress in the second-half of last season and we will be looking to continue that and make a strong start to the new campaign,’ an optimistic Foster said.

EDIT should have put this in the LOI thread

Carlo Ancellotti has left AC Milan by mutual consent. Seems nailed on to take over at Chelsea. There’s a few reports floating around claiming Sunderland have moved for Roberto Mancini.

Saw Mancini on the TV on mute in the gym today, was wondering what the read with him was. Would be very surprised if he took over at Sunderland.

Ancelotti looks nailed on for Chelsea alright, which I must say I wouldn’t be too excited about. Dion Fanning reports in today’s Sindo that Ancelotti revealed in a recent book about how he has had private conversations with Abramovich about who at Chelsea he rates and who he doesn’t.

Ancellotti has an autobiography out at the moment and he mentions meeting Abramovich in Paris last summer all right. Told him to sign Ribery and Alonso according to it.

I put a piece on ANcellottis book in the transfer thread.

He’s nailed on for Chelsea.

Leonardo is to take over at Milan, bit of a shock appointment, he doesn’t even have his coaching badges

That’s a shock alright, they might have trouble keeping some of their better players now - unless of course they were consulted…

Rumour is he’ll be bringing Phil in with him, dunno how true that is. They’ve been grooming him for a while.

Big Phil as an assistant? Can’t see that working. Berlusconi is losing it.

A mentor/asst. It was mooted a while back. Phil will go where the cash is.

Not saying it won’t happen, just saying it’s bound to end in tears.

Real Madrid have appointed Manuel Pellegrini as their new manager. He leaves Villarreal to take up the role and that means Juande Ramos is now out of a job.

Great move for all concerned imo. Bruce has done a fine job at Wigan despite havin his hands tied with regards money.

Sunderland near Bruce appointment

Bruce now has to agree personal terms with Sunderland
Sunderland moved a step closer to appointing Steve Bruce as their new manager after agreeing a compensation fee with Wigan chairman Dave Whelan.

Bruce, 48, was given permission by Whelan to speak to the Black Cats about their vacant managerial post last week.

Whelan wanted the 3m back he paid Birmingham to release Bruce from his St Andrew’s contract in 2007.

With the compensation package agreed it is now just a matter of Sunderland agreeing personal terms with Bruce.

Officials from the north east club are believed to be in Portugal - where Bruce is on holiday - to thrash out personal terms.

606: DEBATE
If Steve Bruce joins the club as our new manager then like all good fans, I’ll back him and support the team all the way

Bruce, who started his second spell in charge at Wigan in November 2007 after Whelan paid Birmingham 3m to secure his services, guided the Latics to 11th in the Premier League this season.

American investor Ellis Short, who bankrolled the club’s summer transfer spending in 2008, has confirmed that he is to assume 100% control of the club.

The Black Cats were strongly linked with Gordon Strachan, who resigned as Celtic manager on 25 May, prior to focussing on Bruce.

Bruce started his managerial career at Sheffield United in 1998 and has since been in charge of Huddersfield, Crystal Palace and Birmingham in addition to two spells at Wigan.

Whelan meanwhile insists he has nobody specific in mind as a replacement if Bruce agrees to the switch.

“It’s not something I do,” he said. "I just wait to see what the outcome is and then face reality.

“If we’ve got to get a new manager, we’ll advertise and we’ll have 20 applications in and there will be some good lads among them.”

I thought Leonardo was chief scout. There’s some difference between chief scout and manager in fairness.

Bruce seems to be a right mercenary. This is the fourth club he’s deserted and it’s not as if his moves have been career advancements as invariably he goes to a team in a worse position. He just follows the money. He’ll probably do about six months with Sunderland before Shearer gets sacked at Newcastle and he leaves to take over there.
