While I Would in no way condone what Bruce has done before now I wouldnt blame him for this move. He’s reached his limit at Wigan where they are having to sell players underneath him. He’s right to move on this occasion if The Club formerly known as SundIreland have they money they’re mooted to have.
Most of his moves have been upwards financially wise, if not always in league position at that moment in time, Sunderland to Newcastle at the moment would not be an upward move.
Why would Bruce want to go to Sunderland other than for a big pay cheque, its in the middle of nowhere in comparison with Wigan, the players are championship standard for the most part, theyre running out of money big time and are only assuming that this Yank has heaps of it,Wigan have a better set up and he looked ultra safe there.
Bruce is from the North East of England, Sunderland will have a good bit of money to throw around, Wigan had gone as far as their resources would dictate and progress is easier to achieve at Sunderland.
big question is who does Wigan’s latin/south American scout belong to -did Bruce bring him to Wigan or was he already there?..he’s unearthed a few gems whoever he is…
Arsene Wenger gave him the heads up about Palacios anyway. Liked him on trial but didnt think he was good enough for the Gunners. Bruce brought him to Birmingham but McLeish didnt rate him so Bruce bought him again at Wigan where he thrived and made their bank balance 14m richer a few months back.
Valencia played against England in the World Cup in 2006. I’d say Jewell signed him.
Jewell unearthed some of those boys himself while working for the BBC during the last World Cup i believe. He was impressed with Valencia and signed him straight away after what he saw. I suppose it just spiralled from there.
John Barnes has been confirmed as manager of Coca-Cola League One outfit Tranmere Rovers.
The former England and Liverpool winger, who recently ended his short stint as head coach of Jamaica, has been out of club management since being sacked by Celtic in February 2000.
Barnes’ former Liverpool team-mate and ex-Tranmere midfielder Jason McAteer has been named assistant-manager.
Barnes’ dismissal from the Glasgow giants followed a humiliating Scottish Cup defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
The 45-year-old will now be forced to work to a limited budget at Prenton Park.
Tranmere, who narrowly failed to make the play-offs on the final day of last season, recently sacked Ronnie Moore after three years in charge of the Merseyside club.
Martinez was confirmed at Wigan too think we missed that. They will have a tough season I reckon. Whelan’s money cant go on as they have the lowest average attendance in the league.
