Who is that fella?

Is Frenkie black?!! I never see colour really, but I’m sure I’d have noticed that.

The Glazers simply need to back the Hag and pay Barcelona a fair fee

united have Barcelona over a barrel here. Its impressive work. They can wait Barca out.

Laporte is trying to leverage TV rights to get out of a hole. They owe De Jong millions of delayed salary payments too.

Like the Taliban?

Like you’d see with kids starting school :joy:

Shawsie will be on some rip down the chippers.

Cristiano Ronaldo uncertainty delays special Manchester United kit launch video

The launch of Manchester United’s new kit for the 2022-23 season does include Cristiano Ronaldo in promotional material, but a special advert slated to feature him prominently is being held in reserve until the club gain clarity on his future.

Footage has been shot of Ronaldo alongside Eric Cantona and David Beckham, bringing together three iconic United No 7s, and the final version was scheduled to be released at the same time as the latest Adidas shirts go on sale.

The uncertainty around Ronaldo — sparked by him telling United he wants to leave should a suitable bid arrive and continued by his absence from Carrington for pre-season training and the departure for their summer tour today — has prompted a re-think. The advert remains in the creative process and can be altered depending on Ronaldo’s status in Erik ten Hag’s squad.

Ronaldo would still be expected to feature prominently if he stays. Were he to depart, there are ways of reworking the advert so it still carries impact for fans. Bryan Robson, who contributed to events around the 2015-16 kit launch, is another legendary No 7 involved in the process.

On Friday morning, United released a 30 second video on social media of multiple players past and present, including Ronaldo, alongside the kit release.

Given developments around Ronaldo are so fresh, it was agreed between United and Adidas to pause on placing him as being central to the kit launch.

That approach seems sensible. It would have been incongruous for Ronaldo to gain prominence on a significant occasion for the club so soon after declaring his wish to leave. But to wipe him from all marketing might have been seen as an admission he will play elsewhere this season.

On Thursday, the fourth day of training Ronaldo has missed for family reasons, United reiterated their stance that he is not for sale, dismissing suspicions club executives are open to doing business for suitable offers.

Undoubtedly, his global profile helps on a commercial level and nobody should expect United to forgo that uplift because of some turbulence triggered by the player. Releasing photographs of Ronaldo in the new kit, with Cantona and other current players, seems a sensible compromise in a tricky situation.

United could not have had him leading the way, even if flanked by two members of United royalty in Cantona and Beckham — two players who, coincidentally each left Old Trafford with a certain element of drama. Cantona abruptly called time on his career aged 30 after winning the title in 1997, spreading shock around the country. Beckham departed also as a champion in 2003 after a season in which Sir Alex Ferguson had kicked a boot that struck him in the face.

Although Ronaldo, as the club’s most famous current player, has had a significant role in preparing to promote the kit, Cantona was at the origins of the campaign because of the shirt having a collar. He was recruited at the outset.

Imagery of Cantona turning up the collar, as he did during his playing days, is seen as a stylish nod to nostalgia. The rest of the kit design is also something of a throwback.

While the exact manner of the marketing has been fluid, the launch date has always been fixed as the end of this week ahead of the team flying out to Bangkok for the first leg of their pre-season tour. The kit launch has not been delayed at all by Ronaldo requesting to leave.

On the day Ronaldo posed for shots in the new kit, which happened around five weeks ago, he gave the clear impression he would be at the club to wear it on the pitch. Whether he was keeping his counsel or whether his mind changed in the intervening period, only he knows.

Now, there is no such confidence, and it was confirmed on Thursday evening that he would not be boarding the plane to Thailand on Friday. He could yet join up for the Australian leg, with United touching down on July 13, but even that is currently in doubt.

United will train today at 10.30am before flying off on tour at 4.30pm.

Ronaldo’s presence on tour has been heavily factored in by organisers and usually, there are financial penalties for absent first-teamers. But The Athletic can confirm there is no contractual clause tied to any United player, so the club are free from fines should Ronaldo stay away.

Ten Hag’s focus while abroad will be on those players he can coach. The Australian climate in Melbourne and Perth is moderate so suitable for the blocks of training United’s manager wants to use to begin instilling his way of playing.

Fans in Bangkok’s Rajamangala Stadium will get a first glimpse of that approach — as well as the new kit. The question over whether Ronaldo might wear it again after his day in front of the cameras will follow United around their travels.

He’s after creating some clusterfuck.

No one wants him, bar maybe Napoli and I doubt they can afford his wages.

There’ll be a circus around him. Mendes must have been confident he’d get a move secured but it doesn’t seem to have turned out like that.

As much as I think Utd would be better off moving him on and trying to buy Antony I can’t see it happening.

At least it has given ETH one less candidate for the captaincy, has to be Bruno or De Gea now.

Miguel confirming that there is a genuine personal issue.

It can’t have been easy for them the last few months in fairness.
