Manchester United 21/22

Could they not have brought in a sports psychologist/ stand up comedian/ stripper to improve the atmosphere?

Ole fixed it, then they brought Ronaldo in on more money than all the rest and shafted Cavani and Greenwood while doing so. That one signing managed to disrupt all of Ole’s work.

All because Fergusons ego wouldn’t let City make the same mistake. Brilliant

It looks like interim interim Coach Carrick is being thrown to the wolves by being given charge for the games against UEFA Cup champions Villareal, European Cup champions Chelsea, and an in form Arsenal who lost to Liverpool by only four goals at the weekend.

The ultimate beneficiary could be the interim manager who will have a much more favourable run of fixtures after that.

Unlikely he had any input into the Ronaldo transfer but Ferdinand was still taking all the credit for it.

Ronaldo would have been exactly what city needed tbh, a pure finisher.

A serious about turn from you

Doesn’t do any work though. Pep likes his strikers to move around a bit.

Wouldn’t really need to at city, but there is that.

Francis Jeffers is available.

he dropped aguero until he learned how to work off the ball

No need.

Greenwood knows a few Icelandic birds that can be brought in to improve the atmosphere.

It’s struck me from time to time that one of the many (cultural) differences between US sports and European club football is the focus or lack thereof on SCHEDULE DIFFICULTY.

A made up example but you could have Buffalo Bills in the NFL on, say, 7-1 (that’s 7 wins and 1 loss @Biff_Egan) but you’d have analysts saying it’s probably a false position because they’ve played 5 games at home, they’ve played 3 games against divisional rivals who each have records below .500 (that’s lost more games than they’ve won @Julio_Geordio) and haven’t played any teams in play-off spots in their games outside their conference. And so on and so on.

But football is generally just…they’ve won 7 from 8, it’s amazing! This results in poor decision making, like giving Solskjaer the permanent job or a 3-year contract extension. Or numerous examples of other clubs making similar decisions based on incomplete/not fully representative data (cc @mickee321). I think there’s a growing attempt from analyst/Opta types to project what final points tallies teams will get based on who they’ve played and how they’ve done so far, but a lot of the punditry and media chat doesn’t really consider this at all.

John Giles recently suggested that Ireland should follow the set-up of the Nottingham Forest team of the late 70’s. Two journey men centre mid with the creativity on the wings. He suggested Daryl Horgan and James McClean for the roles on the wings.

I’m reading this morning that Coach Pochettino is seemingly their Number 1 target. Quite early in Oe’s tenure, end of January 2019 after an initial 4 or 5 straight wins over the relegation contenders, they went to the Empire Stadium to face Spurs. Spurs were still in title contention at that stage. The match was billed as a shoot out to see who was going to get the full time Man U gig. Pochettino was beginning to make noises that he’d reached the end of the road at Spurs.

Spurs battered them from start to finish, De Gea pulled off a number of incredible saves, Man U probably had one chance all day on the break, which Rashford took for a smash and grab 0-1 win. It was that win really that was hailed as showing Ole’s mettle in big games and Pochettino’s seeming lack of. Ole was confirmed as full time manager a few weeks later after beating PSG somewhat improbably in Paris.

Pochettino was out of work for a year after getting sacked at Spurs and Tuchel and Conte were twiddling their thumbs for a good while as well at various stages when Ole was seemingly on the brink. Now it seems they’re struggling to appoint a full time manager right now, because all the heavy hitters are tied down.

I though the journeymen were in the centre ??

This is probably true, particularly lower down the table but the teams that have been winning the league in recent seasons have only been losing 3-6 games all year long.

Just when things couldn’t get any worse for United.

Ed Woodward is The Equalizer. He will not rest until Liverpool have equalized at 20 league titles each.

Carry On Ed. Carry On United.

Classic Sky Sports. He told the football staff that they’re safe so he might stay on.

Absolutely nothing there to suggest that he isn’t still fucking off.
